My mare had a tenoscopy 7 weeks ago as scan picked up lesion on SDFT! They also discovered that the manica flexoria had torn! The vet rescanned on Thurs but is concerned that the lesion hasn't reduced much and that there is lots of fluid on tendon sheath. He is coming back in 2 weeks to drain fluid and give a possible steroid injection.
She is doing 20 mins twice a day controlled walking! We are going to try some deep tissue massage and possibly a magnetic boot!
Any other ideas would be very welcome!

I suppose you have tried cold hosing?

My horse had this, it turned out to be more serious that I had first thought and he was on box rest for about a couple of months with no turnout. Sent him bonkers.

1. MSM cheapest from Cyte Essentials.

2.Cold laser. I have use it twice on tendon damage to great effect both times. If I used it the swelling reduced, if I didn't it went up. You can buy them on eBay listed as red laser or cold laser, but my OH made me a 3 diode machine.

Even when she was first ignored with tendon injury, vets told me that there was no point in cold hosing as injury too acute! I have to say that this surprised me!
Will look at other suggestions - thanks:)

We cold hose, ice bubble boot and then stable bandage any tendon injuries and they return to racing 99 percent of the time. Search tendon injury and treatment on the net gives you the details and why cold hosing shouldnt be more than 20 mins, something we do, and i never thought there was any significance in this but there is. it is to do with oxygen in the blood and the cold etc etc. very interesting reading.

Yep, re cold hosing - always understood that about 15 minutes at one time is the correct thing, do little and often, rather than one big session.

The laser things get good reports too.

My vet is adamant that there is no point in cold hosing!
My yard is run by a physio and she did some deep friction massage on leg which seemed to improve swelling! I have two weeks to reduce the swelling otherwise vet will drain it!

Ice cups are more effective than cold hosing as they keep a more ambient temperature than running water although the motion of running water is also meant to be of a little benefit.

Fill polystyrene cups with water and freeze. Apply the open end of the cup to your horses injury site, using a circling motion. Do not allow the cup to be stationary as this can cause an ice burn. When the ice melts (it melts quickly when the injury site is very warm) peel down the cup. After about 20 mins the cup may have been used up, but if not just stick back in the freezer for next time. We have a number of ice cups all made up in the freezer at our yard. They are essential for tendon injuries. polystyrene cups can be bought from Poundland and places like that.
