basically i just want ideas as to what could be the cause of him lameness not to be jumped on for this, that and the other i am doing my best by him and will have any treatment carried out that needs it.
about 3 weeks ago taz rolled under the barbed wire fence (which he was electrified away from) and pulled the fence with him causing some superficial cuts down his back legs he had slight swelling but no lameness
he recovered from that and i decided to start ridden work again (having been not really ridden since april last year properly and been out of full work since october) i sat on him walked around and then he spooked whipped around rodeoing leaving me on the floor. he carried on rodeoing over some roofing tile and on to the concrete before being caught. he was checked over for lameness and nothing was wrong so we went on a hack where he stood on a large stone so he was lame for a couple of strides (hes shoeless) but was fine after that and was stabled over night walked out the next morning fine.
but in the evening when i went to bring him in he was very lame on his front left and was very reluctant to walk down hill, he was visibly lame in walk so no point trotting up. we poulticed his foot athough there was no heat, no swelling, no pulse, nothing to give a reason for his lameness.
next morning he walked out sound and trotted up slightly unlevel.
he came in the evening slightly lame in walk again and this repeated for about 3 days. we took the poultice off after the first night.
i the turned him out 24/7 and he was sound mostof the time but sometimes a bit off in trot.
the farrier came out to give him a trim and i said about it and he trotted up slightly unlevel but not hugely lame probably 1/10th and he checked his feet over and did a pinch test which he didnt react to and the farrier just said he was foot sore which i dont think makes sence as he wouldnt have been so very lame in his front with being foot sore would he?
he had been sound for about 2 weeks so i decided to sit on him again i was on for about 15mins walked most of it with just the tiniest bit of trot all on grass.
next day hes unlevel again in walk and im completely baffled
the only things that have changed is that he changed back to his old field, he had been in the other one for about a month then he rolled under the fence so he moved back
and also he went from cool balancer to the full balancer because he was going to go into full work and was dropping weight again.
he is also strip grased with my other horse
im just confused as to howhe can gallop around and buck and rear and act like an idiot in the field and stay sound but i sit on him for 15mins and hes lame again.
i dont want to go down the x-ray and scan route if i dont have to as this leg isnt insured because of exclusions but i will if that is what is needed
im just wondering if by giving him time off i have uncovered a lameness he always had that was hidden by being quite fit (or im just making that up in my head as im making little reasons in my head)
i have had the vet out and he doesnt quite understand it either so im just looking for ideas really, im happy to keep him on field rest to see if he comes right, i have also bought him some hoof boots and im happy to put shoes back on. he hasnt been ridden more than 3 times since he has been barefoot and was always picky about where he walked understandably.
thanks ben and jerrys vermonster for any one with ideas!
