I am not used to livery yards, always had horses on farms or fields. But I was looking at moving my boy because I wanted better facilities and off road hacking.

Went to visit one today, it was quiet, good facilities, couple of things I wasnt keen on but could live with. But something I couldnt put my finger on, the horses all seemed subdued

I thought dont be silly, they are just relaxed but it was more than that, is it me do you think not used to a livery yard picking up on something ?

The horses in the stables and paddocks just seemed disinterested in anything.

I think I might o back for another look when its busier, any ideas?

sorry random question probably

Sounds slightly bizarre. Did they not look up when you went to the fields? Our lot do

Those in the stables will whinny when someone walks into the yard and stick their heads over the doors for a look-see.

well there werent many in, one lifted it head in the field, but the others in the stables just kind of stood there ,I am used to horses trying to get a carrot or at least thinking human = food or oooo activity

It's Sunday! I was at my livery yard all afternoon laying rubber mats and hadn't seen anyone. There are 40+ horses liveried there and I actually remarked to my sons, "Where is everyone???" when we arrived. If I had a riding horse, I know I'd be riding it over the weekend! Mind you, by about 5pm people started arriving and horses were being brought out and ridden.

I'd plan to go up when it's busier, or maybe just ask the YO outright whether it's always as quiet and laid back as it was when you visited today.

I assume all the horses looked well, had good beds, and clean paddocks? If so, I'd not be put off. IMO, a nice quiet yard is a bonus!!!

The horses on the yard I'm at always tend to only react when 'their' human is around, as they are all on their own routines. If they're all eating you can walk around the entire yard and not have a single horse acknowledge your presence as it were. Go up again and see if you're happier.
