I have been racking my brain for ideas to entertain my fatty horse in the field. He is in a fairly bare field (with a little to pick at) and I want to put something out there to give him something other than food to think about (will prob only last two seconds as he is led by his belly)

I have seen people use an exercise ball and wondered if this would be safe?
I am concerned it might cause problems with him tripping, but an exercise ball is rubber and if worse came to worse should pop?

Has anyone used a ball in the field, if so what type and would it be ok to do this? Or does anyone have any cunning ideas I could try. I have put a big branch out there for him to pick at and a food ball, lick, straw, socked hay.

Thanks :-)

He does have horses next to him that he can touch. He will also have my other horse in with him as soon as the spring grass comes through a little more. I like the idea of them being able to have different things to interact with (he is a spooky little devil)

I'm interested in replies to the exercise ball query. I've seen photos/vids that people have posted with their horse playing with a big ball-are they the inflatable gym/exercise balls that humans use? Are they squishy enough to yield if horse 'jumps' on them? Would like to try one in with ours but wouldn't want any broken legs!

Thanks for the replies, I did wonder if it was a bit of a chance especially as he is quite accident prone oh well back to the drawing board.
