Little dog is desperate for the toilet but won't go outside, frightened of the fireworks.

I've tried standing outside with her making lots of cheery noises but shes terrified, having none of it.

We've resorted to sticking newspaper by the back door for her but don't think she will go for it... think we'll end up with a secret wee somewhere and an even more upset dog...

Any ideas? Doesn't matter where she wees inside as it is easily cleaned up but would love to help her!

She's fine indoors, doesn't seem to bother with the bangs- just REALLY needs a wee!!!!!

This is obviously too late for your immediate issue but I got a new product from the vets today called DAP (Dog Appeasing Pheremone). It is a calmer in the form of a plug in diffuser that emits a copy of the pheremone the dog's mother produces, and can be used for all anxiety situations, but they are promoting it with the fireworks going on at the moment. It takes about a week to take effect though. I bought it more to help my new puppy settle in and my other dog accept him. I can't give a report on the product yet as I only got it today. You can also get an aerosol version.

DAP is excellent, our whole family use it (uncle who is a vet recommended it years ago and it's fab!) BUT, haven't any this evening

She's had a wee now (lost control of her bladder inside as predicted, then got upset with herself) and it now tearing round like a dog posessed with her toys so obviously much happier

Hmmm could you tempt her out with something really yummy, like chicken or something?

Good idea but no, she is terrified outside beyond distraction.

Will have to try and get hold of some DAP tomorrow...

Oh dear. I would suggest covering all carpeted areas with newspaper, but leave the tiled ones out if you are feeling lazy.

With Pheobe when she is scared she runs around like a loon, so eventually I have to take her up to mybed...It's the only way she will calm down bless her, even though the fireworks are just as loud up there!. I hope you get it sorted and get hold of some DAP asap!

DAP is very good, but takes time to work. You could try Bachs Flower Remedies - Rescue Remedy for stress - lots of people use it themselves, for their dogs and their horses. Sold at chemists, health food shops, some supermarkets. It has a quicker effect. Its the sort of thing you take just before a competition to calm those nerves!!
