Hi everyone, any ideas what this could be? This has come up a few times after my Mare was in a horrendous fight with another horse. She’s been seen by a vet multiple times and initially the swelling went away. It’s a very fluid lump, squishy and causes her no pain and she is sound. She had the Chiro out on Wednesday and was in great shape. She’s her usual self to ride (forward) but I don’t like how is disappears for a while and then comes back. I’ve hosed and covered with Arnica and Witch Hazel Gel and will check again later. Would you be worried? Photo isn’t great as it looks like her leg is swollen but can assure you it’s not at all. My only concern is the fluid lump. Any thoughts would be great. Thank you.

My experience of them is very limited, friends horse had one and if I remember correctly it did go up and down with exercise. I would get you vet back to discuss treatment but I am surprised they didn’t tell you what they thought it was when they saw it previously.

I think I had something similar after a horse had lymphangitis. It used to come up and down with exercise and gradually got better and disappeared over time (months). The vet said there was nothing that could be done for it but did suggest magnets for it and they did seem to help.

Thank you everyone. It wasn’t there at the time when the vet was treating her other injury from the fight which was oddly on the other leg! She is turned out at night and this was up like this, this morning. It hasn’t been there for weeks, so I assumed when it first came up that it was from the fight but having come up again 3 months later I am a bit concerned. Magnets have been mentioned before to me so I think I might get some to try. Thank you.
