hi there

i have been home from work for two hours now and one of my usual boistrous horses just isnt herself. shes stood around just looking really dozy i had already given her some feed before i noticed how miserable she looked. i have just been to check on her again and she was surrounded by midges so i have put some naf midge cream all over her. do you think this could be what is wrong with her? otherwise she looks fine ate her food quietly, eyes look fine, skin check, gums all seem fine she just seems miserable and is standing around like when they are resting in the day.

im keeping check on her but not sure what else i can do at the moment as it is now going dark. it doesnt seem like colic or anything like that and she never normally gets ill.

sorry im rambling just a bit worried that she is so quiet and its pretty unusual for her.

How's her temperature? Is she passing droppings? If yes, are they normal consistency?

If her temperature is OK and she is eating, drinking and passing droppings I would just keep a bit of an eye on her late at night and first thing in the morning.

she has had a wee since ive been watching her but she is just stood as if resting. she ate her food quietly which isnt unusual she just normally a little boisterous when she has it. i have only seen her eating grass once before i plastered her in cream. she is still just stood about and not moving around much which is unusual for her shes only usually still when resting but not for this length of time.

just checked her again and she is still just stood moved a little but not a lot. her ears are pricked and eyes seem bright but just not sure whats up with her. i dont have any facilities to bring her in so i can only just keep checking on her but she would never rest for this long

Keep a very close eye on her hun. Owners always know their own horses best and if you think she's doing something completely out of character then she is. Could be the start of a virus or abscess or colicky bout or anything. Just watch her closely, just in case x.
