My little TB was off work for a few weeks with a mixture of lameness and weather. A few weeks ago he didn't seem right when I rode him and he was slightly lame in the hind.

Before riding him again I trotted him up and he was sound. I noticed after getting on that he seemed humpy and reluctant to go forward. I lunged him and he seemed to be OK (I didn't ride him after lunging), as obviously I can't see anything riding. I then got my dad to video me the next day and he went forward as he was videoed. From reviewing the video I can't see anything. However when ever dad left the arena he seemed to be really nappy and had a bit of a bucking fit. Got him going forward after that and I rode him for another 10 minutes and he went quite well.

I wondered if it was my dressage saddle so I changed to my jumping saddle (which I hate, :( ). He doesn't seem as humpy with his jumping saddle. But tonight he was reluctant to go forward and kicking out at the schooling whip (which is unlike him). Again I put him on the lunge and he was fine. I rode him after lunging, he was a bit more forward and not kicking out at the whip, but anytime I asked for a bit more activity he popped up into canter. His canter was lovely but his trot work was not up to the usual standard. I don't know wether my riding is crap (because I am riding in a saddle I hate) or something is wrong.

My dad is saying he is having an attitude problem, especially the way he behaved on Saturday. But to me it is more than that.

After he was ridden tonight I pressed along his back to see if it was sore and there was no reaction from him. I have arranged for the saddler to come out to check both his saddles so I will see him tomorrow evening. His teeth were checked two months ago.

I was wondering should take him to the vet to get an overall check before I contact a back person.

Any other thoughts on what I should do?

In order of likeliness...

Saddle fit
Back pain
Front Feet pain
Hock pain
Loads of other things :o

I'd go saddler, physio, vet if it were me.
