Horse has recently come back into work (ie walking) over the past 2.5 weeks after having some time off due to operation at the vets.

When he first came back in put saddle on no problem. He then decided one night out of the blue that he didn't like his saddle. Put it on him, wrapped the girth round him, then he started humping his back and being a bit of a twit. Did girth up a couple of holes (always have to do it slowly as he puffs himself up), he then decided he really didnt like it, started humping even more and scrabbling around on the floor.

So wondered if it might be the saddle, so changed it over to his other one, which he seemed much better with. Got on and rode him and everything was fine.

Rode him couple of times earlier on this week (in first saddle), and he has been fine. However tacked him up today, and I had a repeat of the above (with the first saddle).

His back was checked last week, no particular problem areas. I had a look at the girth and saddle cloth, there was nothing sticking into him. We checked the saddle when we eventually managed to tack him up - its not particulary tight. (Although he starts playing up when the saddle is put on him, not when its done up, which doesnt suggest its pinching him badly.)

Any ideas?

operation was to remove bits of broken splint bone. It was the same numnah etc on the saddle, although it may have been "cold", he had his nice warm toasty rug on uptil a couple of minutes before saddle going on (just to brush him.) Nice and warm here this afternoon no shouldnt have been cold or damp. (Hes not doing enough work to build up a sweat yet.)
