Today I brought my mare in and noticed a slight swelling on the outside of her hind leg (mid cannon bone). I didn't think too much of it so I got on and took her for a ten minute hack (in walk) before I used the school. Got her into the school and she was hopping lame 
I got off and cold hosed it, and obviously will get the vet out for her tomorrow. The swelling had gone down but the area was still hot and we did another trot up and from what I can see she looks reluctant to use her hock, almost like she is trying to hold it straight?
She is currently in relatively hard work, in preparation for her event tomorrow (obv we can't go) we have done so much preparation work for it I really don't know what I did wrong, she did some xc schooling yesterday and was absolutely fine, turned out, no bangs, kicks or accidents just a swelling with heat and lameness???
Any ideas, I am currently worrying myself by googling 'hind leg lameness'.
