Noticed these on Dolly's legs on Weds. They are not painful at all, she is quite happy for me to touch them. Are on all four legs, some more than others. A vet was at the yard on Weds (Not my vet) and he had a quick look and has has given me some Antibiotics for her. She is 7 1/2 months in foal.

Pics taken on phone, so apologies for quality.

Some are scabby, some aren't. She has been stamping a bit and I know they are itchy.

She has never had feathers before, her legs were always clipped. Me and a friend pig oil and sulphured the legs on Saturday, so am hopefuly that would have killed any mites she may have had. I did wonder if it could be a reaction to the P&S, but vet didn't think it was likely.

My gelding gets patches on his legs like that, its from where he stomps and bites his legs due to mites! So I wouldn't worry to much in that its nothing serious.

I have my cob jabbed with dectomax and that works really well. Altho with your mare being in foal I don't know if you could have this done?!!

Thanks everyone. Am not using the fuciderm as too worried about effects to foal.

They are roughly circular in appearance (apart from the ones she has really had a go at), but can't say I have noticed a hole. Will have a good look today though as will see her in proper daylight.

Any ideas how to treat if it is mites? If I have a good look, will I be able to see them, or are they too small? Never dealt with anything like this before.

yep looks like mites, particularly if she has feathers and is stamping. Either a dectomax injection, or topical ivermectin will sort them out; you may find your vet is willing to dispense an ivermectin/propylene glycol mix over the counter for you to apply to her legs if you have a chat with them. It is perfectly safe in pregnant animals.
