Any ideas what to do with a just gelded pony?

I have just had my colt gelded, he has come staight from the mountians and is pretty much wild, although is getting friendlier by the day, my problem is the vet wants him exercised for 10 minutes 3 times a day, now obviously I cant lunge him, so vet suggested chasing him round the field instead.

My concern is I have just began to get him to learn to trust people and being chased round the field isnt going to help this

So any ideas on how to excerise an unbroken semi wild just gelded pony without scaring him to death?

Can you turn him out with something quiet but will trot round with him? I agree chasing him will reverse the work you have been doing with him. Also you might not be able to catch him again afterwards.
 
How about doing Join-Up with him? Not only will you be giving him exercise by sending him away from you but you will be building a relationship as he learns that the safest place to be is with you. I don't know a link to tell you if you don't know join-up but I can have a hunt and find one . . .
 
If he's out 24/7 he won't need exercise!

We never do anything with our wild hill ponies after gelding, just turn them out together to play and exercise themselves!

Never had any bother with any , we generally have a gelding party, and do about 4 or 5 at a time.
 
How old is he? All we did with Beano after he was gelded was turn him out so he could move around and not get too swollen. He was pretty stiff and sore; I am sure he would not have liked being chased and made to run!
 
Cant lunge him because he is wild, will just about lead with a bucket of food in front of him, but not in anyway halter broken, think little welsh colt straight from the hills, no handleing what so ever


he is out 24/7 but is very laid back, doesnt really do much

At the moment loose schooling would just scare him to death bless him
 
he is out along side my other two, but darent put either of them in with him as hector would proberly kill him (hates ponies, and is quite riggy)

I think jerry might be a little too much for him at the moment, I will introduce them a little later on when he is less stallion like
 
I am in a similar situation as you. Just gelded rescue horse who had been beaten up so chasing round a no no and leading out on road a little scary. I compromised with leading each day twice up and down yard then I noticed he loved throwing his feed bowl around. I gave him either a plastic feed sack or an old bowl and he will canter round 'killing' either toy for 10 minutes getting loads of exercise.
 
i was told i would only have to walk my newly gelded pony about if he was stood in the same place all the time if he is out 24/7 he'll be fine.
