my jack russell is 13 years old approx and has been suffering from colitis for a few months now, he has been on various medication which has helped his stools not become so runny, but has soon as the medication finishes he gets diarrohea again. He has to go to the toilet about eight times a day at least, obviously he has to be left and can not hold himself, so we are consatantly coming home to mess everywhere, this cant be good for him and is getting us down to. He is going back again to the vets on monday, just wondering if anyone has any ideas, as we cant go on with him messing constantly everywhere, he has also lost weight during this time. we have spent a fortune on him in vets fees and am quite happy to try something else, if there is light at the end of the tunnel. Or is he just getting old!

He is getting on ,but you could try moving him onto a diet of boiled rice with a bit of tripe or chicken and see how he does on that. There are probiotic syringes that are available from the vets that might help. Best of luck.

I use Pro-Kolin for my greyhound, who went through a spate of getting upset stomach/diarrhoea for a while. It is great stuff, and she likes the taste which is a bonus

The only thing I would say is DONT get it from the vet, get it online

As you can see, it is around £13 per syringe online - the first time I went to the vets and my total bill was over £60 for consultation, one syringe of this and an injection

While I can't help with treatment, couldn't you make him a kennel and run, either in the garden or inside the garage where he can be put while you have to be out; that way you can easily clean up after him and it's not all over the kitchen floor?!
