i have a rather head shy 3yo turned out in the field, did have a head collar on but has managed to get it off! i go down everyday with a bucket and he now comes trotting over and will eat when its in my hand, just wondering how i will ever get a head collar back on though as if i move my hand he jumps and innevitably dissappears. don't really want to fetch him in until the clocks change but if anyone has a plan, i think i might need to start putting it into action now.

I think just time and lots of patience.

My colt wouldn't let me touch him to start with - with him we discovered he would do anything for food.

So just standing with him and feeding him hay and nuts in return for a touch took time but worked. You will soon build a relationship up. If you have the time.

Try treats, every time you touch him give him a treat and a pat! It worked with my mare who is scared of sprays, I used to spray her and then give her a treat. Now she stands reasonably still :) Hope it goes well for you.
