Sorry the boring old bit question again !!!! my chap is strong out hunting/fast work/jumping and is therefore in a cheltenham gag with 2 reins. For general hacking with a bit of cantering etc he is on the snaffle but if we have a blast like most he can get strong.

Should I keep him in his cheltenham gag using the 2 reins or over the summer (if we ge one!) or try a different bit - I have a 3 ring waterford which I am not that keen on although it helped a little with brakes, a french link which he is schooled/lunged in and a myler with the barrel centre and slots for reins - I was thinking of putting him back the myler with the curb attached for the first few outings just in case with a view to taking curb off later on !

any other - not too dear suggestions - part of the reason for me re-thinking is that I have just bought a new bridle and the gag cheeks are a bit large for it (and wrong colour) If sticking with Gag I will probably buy some new cheeks - maybe rope which look easier to fit to existing chelt. gag bit (seems to like this it has peanut in middle).

thanks all !!!1

Amymay - think you are probably right - was trying to avoid having to buy gag cheeks but in all fairness would need these b4 autumn hunting anyway (old ones are on way out & too big).

will stick to current setup - at least the handbrake is there when required as he certainly does respect it - prob as it is not often required !

I had to try a few different bit combo's on a couple of my horses.

Snaffles for every day - but stronger bits for jolleys and hunting.
