Pushy parents and the poor little children having to jump a pony their scared of..
I know a few on my yard, one guy his daughter was crying because she was scared of the 5th 'new' expensive bsja pony they had bought, He got her off slapped her and put her back on.I couldn't watch, i had to go out....she obviously enjoys horses, but is made to be scared of them because of her stupid parents , there...sorry, rant over!!
Racing, you could start the introduction on the recently banned jockies, (racing post). Then you could follow this up by arguing how very large racing yards with lots of owners and horses do not all receive the same treatment, but pay the same prices.
For example, the worst horses, usually are in lower status yards and a common trick of the trade is for them to be quickly promoted when the owners come to visit. This makes out to the owner to retain their interest and money commitment that their horses is receiving the same training and expertise as the rest and retains the monthly training fee.
Why do racing yards, keep owners and the rubbish horses dangling? Yes it is a business but why not be truefull with the owner so they can bale out or change the horse.
What happens to ex-race horses at the end of the career. I do know that a lot of owners, do not come from horsey backgrounds and therefore ask the trainer to sort it out. I think a responsiblity of care for the horse whilst it is still under the ownership of these people and a responsiblity to ensure the horse is re-homed and placed correctly should not just be on the trainers shoulders.
Hope you can find something in the topics I have mentioned.
