I keep a horse in Africa, and this lump has appeared in the last few days on one of the other horses at the yard. He is old around 29 and recently retired. Hes had similar before filled with fluid that eventually cleared with draining and treatment. This time tho, it is filled with dark blood and it fills immediately after draining. Also the blood doesnt clot.

The vet is at a loss and there arent the facilities to investigate further. I fear it is the end of the road for the old boy, he only has one eye, dodgy stifles, trips a lot, the list is endless. He doesnt seem to be in pain at the moment, but we are all stumped

it looks like a sarcoid or hernia (sp)
im not sure about hernias

but if its a sarcoid then as long as its not bothering him (hes retired so i imagine it won't) dont mess with it as they have a tendacy to come back and with a vengence

but it looks similar to the large sarcoid on one of our mares tummys near her back legs
it grow over 18 months and hasnt affected her at all unless we wanted to breed from her but we dont and shes had it for years now

maybe research hernias?

Possibly something like a harmangiosarcOma? That's a tumour that is made up of blood vessel tissue and often contain large amounts of blood.
