Any training tips or thoughts on a bit that will help lift my mare off her forehand please? She's fine in canter but it's the trot where she over bends. Thanks
depends what you have her in at the moment, but really, it isn't a bit that will teach your mare to carry more weight behind and not lean on you, it is hours and hours of patient consistent schooling. lots of half-halts, lateral work to engage the hindquarters, that sort of thing.
It will take ages but lots and lots of quality transitions - literally after she has warmed up do 4/5 strides of trot than bring her back to walk, then after 4/5 strides of walk take up back up to trot again.
Doing this on a circle is good. it will take a while though for her to build the correct muscles up as its harder working on the hindquarters.
*something I have to keep telling myself - Rome wasn't built in a day!*
We are competing at elementary and my mare finds everything easy and is light in front at home! It just seems to be at competitions - do you think it could be a tension/nervous thing? My trainer says she can do everything and will easily do PSG but that she is lazy! If only I could get the same work at competitions as I do at home. All advice appreciated appreciated.
