This is the advisory for my disco and it run out of mot, what does this mean, and is it expensive??
Nearside x 2 Brake pipe slightly corroded (3.6.B.2c)

Nearside Front Axle king pin has slight play in pin and/or bush (2.5.A.3a)

And another question! As you would expect, it has a rusted boot and you can actually see through to the floor ;-) Its about 30 cm long and is by the door, no where near the seats or seatbelts! Is this an MOT failure? From what i have read it doesnt come into the mot, although i have someone on the case to replace the whole boot floor, it will not be done in time for the mot!

OH is an MOT tester!

If it's an advisory on a new MOT, its passed, BUT needs doing soon...if this was LAST years advisory, chances are it needs doing now, and won't pass! Awkward job, OH did ours, it's the labour that will cost money, as the pipe is approx. £1 a running foot.

As for the front axle king pin, this is a bolt-on part (some things are named differently, he would prefer to see it!)

In all, it would be about 4 hours or so to complete the lot, but of course...without seeing it, hard to say for definate.

Does the disco have rear seats in it? for it to pass it's MOT, the hole will have to be at least 30 cm from a structural point....also, what year is your disco?

:D

its an N reg disco. Yes it does have rear seats but i was looking to take these out as i dont need them and it gives me more room to put my showing junk in!!

I have a chap that was going to have a look at it for me as he does work extremely cheap!! plan being he gave it a once over and did any repairs and then i just booked it in for an mot at the garage! saving myself lots of money, but... He has dissapeared of the face of the earth! so i am thinking its just going to have to go straight to the garage!

A bit far then for you to come up here for OH to have a quick look for ya!

OH said just take it for it's MOT, then at least they will pick up everything it needs, then you can call round different places and get some quotes in.

:D

Basicall hun, you need to either treat your brake pipes with some sort of appropriate grease to stop further corrosion or replace them. my advice.......replace

same goes for the pin/bushes. Replace! The parts themselves are not that expensive but as with everything it's the labour cost that will hit you.

get a plate welded over the hole in the boot.

I have a Disco and I love it but I am fortunate enough that my husband does most of the maintainance on it. He recently replaced the steering box!

Sounds like you've got your self a bit of a project there and maybe not worth spending loads of money on. Whats the mileage? If you know a man who can, that might be your answer!

Thats the thing, i know a man who can ;-) hes just bloomin unreliable! constant arse kicking, i know alot of people in the trade so i am ok in that respect. I tend to get the parts myself from ebay to save myself some money, but i wouldnt know what to get for this one haha! It is only used for ferrying to the yard and towing so it is paramount it is safe for towing!
its got a high milage, just short of 200,00!!! But its been extremley well looked after which is why we got it,and for the amount of miles i was going to do in it, which isnt alot! i have my peugeot for run around and work! It doesnt even smoke when you start her up! I just dont want to fall into the disco spiral of repair after repair! If i do then it will be going to heaven!

Yeah, that's what we do, buy the parts from island 4 x 4 or british car parts and husband fits them allthough there are some jobs he's not able to do.

Landyzone forum is excellent for help and advise and people in the know for getting work done cheaply. They've helped me out on many occasion. You have to be a bit thick skinned and some of the landy nerds can be a little patronising lol

Hi,
I take it your car is a 300tdi? If it is the parts are cheap. They probably mean the front 'swivel pins' they are under a tenner each. There's a top and bottom one on each side.
I replaced the whole lot on mine, that's the whole swivel pin kit with all seals, bearings, housings and bits for 90 quid. Without the housings it's 30 quid. They say the brake pipe has slight corrosion so it just needs cleaning with a wire brush and rubbing with grease.
The steering jobs are explained in detail in a Haynes workshop manual. Not a bad job.

Try:
Paddock spares
Britpart
JSF landrover
Allmakes 4X4

If you need to take the back seats out you need a special 'star bit' for the bolts. The welding sound quite easy as there's no crawling under the car.

Have fun;)

yes it is a 300 tdi! Ooh this sounds promising! i am on good terms with the garage who will mot it and they will be happy for me to get any parts myself that it needs!
