I'm so bored of being broken :(. I know I'm very, very lucky to be walking, etc., but hey ho. So far seven and a half weeks of not being able to do much... :o

Yesterday I was lying down, back was being pretty well behaved, and I lifted a leg up slightly too high. Back went Ping! and has been a pain in the back ever since.

Lying or leaning on it or wearing the brace is blah. I can feel the muscles that are inflamed around the break (sometimes they pulse, which at least is a change from just annoying ). It's hard to describe the sensation, other than to say it's not so good; I can think of better things to be feeling :cool:. Again, I know I'm incredibly lucky to be feeling anything, but humour me, I'm having a bad five minutes.

Sorry for the completely pointless and whinging post. No doubt I'll be back to my chipper self soon. Just a bit hacked off. Broken back, bad cold, then a stomach upset (now that wasn't any fun). Pah. Will go and do some work, that'll make me feel virtuous and less of a fraud as I'm getting paid :eek::D

Hi MrsM, if anyone is allowed to have a whinge then I think it's you after all you've been through. You should have heard me after breaking my ankle :p

I'm not a medical peep but if you think something is not right then phone your doctor. You wouldn't want it to get worse just because you didn't make that call would you? I hope it is nothing serious but please get it checked!

Know just how you feel in away :( I done my back in 4 weeks ago and ended up with Sciatica. First two weeks i could not walk 3rd week could just about walk. Now how ever it is getting better , but some days the pains not so bad then its bad. I wish it would hurry up and heal as i wanna get on with life, getting fed up of looking at all 4 walls in my house...lol Girls at yard been sorting my horse and riding her till i am 100%, so thats good. Like you i keep thinking god will i ever get right again. All i can say is i wish you and myself all the luck to get better. xxx I dont even know how i done my back in just went, so cant even say i fell off my horse...lol

Thankyou :)

C - I still think a broken ankle is worse than what I have. Mine doesn't hurt exactly, is just annoying and niggling and pokey and lumpy and feels wrong; other than that, is fine lol. It's only when the muscles haven't warmed up/stretched that it hurts, which is yuck at the time, but goes fairly quickly so I am lucky in that respect :).

WW - sciatica sounds worse than mine! :(. Ouch hun. Gentle hugs. I'm still working, getting into the office once or twice a week. I think a few weeks off in my case would have been a good plan, but the project we're on is at the wrong stage for any time off, and there is the money side of things, so needs must and all that stuff. I have a piccy of me coming off, looks almost like I'm dismounting, only we're at the apex of the jump :rolleyes:. I'll post it if I can get Photobucket up
It's up :)
Went from this (I know my lower leg is back. I shouldn't have been riding I felt so p*nts that day :()

To this the next time round :(. I'd lost it on the middle part of the grid and didn't recover for the final part:

Mental note to stay on horse, at least until after the jump!:rolleyes::D

Oh, MrsM, cheer up ;)
Dizzy's face in the falling off photo says it all, bless her, she didn't mean to lose you...

Anyway, ailments, I'm not a medical person, so can't really help with your back much, but one thing that would concern me a bit more (as the back obviously is being looked after by pros) is the number of colds you seem to catch! Would it be worth considering some sort of immunity booster? And you probably know that, but maybe adjustment of diet to give you more fighting power against all germs?

Yes poor lass, she was most stressed after that :(. She is a kind horse and I confused her :(

Colds. Always been prone to them :(. Doing quite well this year, think I've only had three ;). I am now on Manuka honey three times a day, Vit C, iron, and have sent out for Echinacea. I thought the Echinacea was a waste of time, but a friend who is into these things, says that I have to take it an hour after cleaning my teeth, something to do with the chloride? I don't get many bugs, very rarely sick, just blasted colds! :(

Poor you! Big hugs to you!

I'm about to join you in the sick bay too.

I had a very successful shoulder op three years ago, then husband's horse(who has hit six and turned from an angel youngster into a teenager!) decided he didn't want his teeth doing this year, reared up and kicked it, so shoulder has been coming out again. Last week it did it at work, so I've been sitting at home waiting for them to fit me in for an op.

My lovely mare has been at stud all summer, and came back last month (not in foal) so we got her shod last week, and I was hoping to get on her this weekend before the op is scheduled, as the shoulder is not so sore now. Yesterday she came in without a shoe, can't be done til next week, and the hospital rang to say they will be operating on Monday - so bang goes my ride!

Last time they operated I was laid up for 5 months, and couldn't do anything for at least 4 months - no driving or anything! So poor other half will be left with all the winter mucking out, and looking after me too (can't even put a pony tail in myself for 2 months!) plus school runs and his own business to run. I will have to break my mare in again next year at this rate! Husband's six year old gets the life of riley again, when he really needs working! Husband is much softer with him than me, and lets him pootle about!

Sorry, that was a bit of a woe is me rant!

Love the photo. I did something like that at a BE last year, when my mare noticed a ditch at the last minute! Somehow managed to get her to slow down and wriggle back on!

Just wanted to send my sympathies. You've been bored and sore for weeks now, anyone in their right mind would be going out of their mind! It won't be too much longer now, but you've really got to look after yourself. It's easy to push yourself too far at this stage and set the healing process back. I can recommend small doses of diazepam if the muscle spasms get too painful at night, it helps the muscles to relax. Hang on in there x

M - ta hun, I will cheer up, just having today to be blah and whingy :cool:

H08 - another one that makes my woes pale into insignificance . Very gentle hugs hun. Well done on your wriggling :D. I remember thinking I was not going to get hurt this time, I would land on my feet.... from that height/speed. Hm. Definately was not with it that day!

LH - thank you :). It is now four weeks and six days, not that I'm counting lol. It will pass. I'm just slightly nail biting that I will not be able to get back on/canter/jump again. Bet I'll be okay on other horses, just not on Dizz. I really don't want to lose the winter again like I did last year :(

I think you've got a right to whinge, Mrs M. I was laid up for only a few weeks when I had my riding accident, but the depression which set in - sheesh! I developed sciatica after, too and got into a very dangerous habit of driving to work, taking a tramadol to get through the day and driving home when it had worn off!

I would see the pulsing as a good sign. It means the inflammation is going down a little. I recently dislocated my cuboid in my ankle (hence my special insoles being made) and I was panicking when I could feel it pulsing, but then realised it was a good sign - it got better from then on and I'm walking almost normally, now. Until the podiatrist gets to me again...

Have they given you any diazepam? I had this for the muscle spasms and it worked really well (and helped me sleep, too). It's just a bugger when you coome off it (this is when the depression was bad!).

FS - its's amazing what effect is has on one's mental outlook! I have so much going for me/us. Everyone is working very hard on 'stuff'. I think I need some time off. I've worked through everything (bleed on brain, operation, colds, flu, broken back). I've had three days off in total and no holidays this year, bar one and a half days in August to watch Friend and D1 at the horse camp I should of been attending. See, whinge! I had six months off in total last year, but it seems a very long time ago :o :rolleyes:.

The consultant was very rushed. I had questions that all went out of my head! Having been hooked on the Codeine, I am loath to take anything else - coming down off the Codeine was Yuck! Most of the time, it just feels like a big, long lump, which does not appreciate any pressure on it.
