Over the Winter, my old chap got a girth gall where as he was clipped, although normally his nice old soft leather girth has avoided any issues like this for thousands of years

He is 27 and I have had him for 17 years and he was used to, up until 2 1/2 years ago, being ridden out for hours on end with no issues before, using this leather girth

I sorted the problem by nicking my TB's nice wool one (not sheepskin) and I should really give it back to him, before he starts to suffer

.. but they do not seem to make them like this any longer, mind you it used to be my old boy's before investing in a leather girth all those years ago

(you know the saying 'they do not make them like they used to' ... and ... ' what goes around come around'

)

Sorry for waffling, but that is one of my traights

Anyway so I am looking for a nice modern alternative, as a cover rather than abandoning his nice leather one (as I am quite attached to it

..... any ideas?

I want something that is washable, but preferrably not Sheepskin

In case anyone wonders .. I do not think it is due to the area not being clean as I am very anul

and I don't think it is too tight

. But maybe due to him being quite lean nowadays

griffin do a wool girth sleeve, if not try a pro-lite one

The Griffin one is the one I was using, but it has not been taken over by NuMed (I think!) and is not 1/2 as good as the original

I am off to look at the pro-lite one .... I was trying to think of that name earlier, but my mind went blank

Eaglestone,
I had the problem you describe when my horse lost weight.
I use a pure wool knitted sleeve (looks like sheepskin, but not)
IMHO the synthetic wool ones cause as many problems with burning the skin.
I have an old neoprene one that I no longer use.
PM me if you are interested.
