Any news on Lennox

Think Friday past was the deadline for an appeal, site has been down all weekend and no response to email or text. Not expecting good news TBH.
Not going to complain, they have enough going on - it's not about us, it's about them x

A news piece from Tuesday Oct 25:

"A woman has been fined £150 and ordered to pay £250 compensation after her dog attacked and injured a man.
Ethel Larmour, from Cuba Walk in east Belfast, was also ordered to pay costs of £72 in relation to the incident which happened on February 22, 2011.
The judge also issued a confinement order meaning the dog must be muzzled and kept on a lead at all times when in public.
The prosecution was brought by Belfast City Council."

So a dog attacked a man and is allowed to live, Lennox attacked no one and has to die.
Same council.
*sigh*

Well yes and no Dobie, they have attracted a few headcases who like to write libellous and threatening stuff about and directly to BCC and the judge, not ideal when you are in a sensitive legal battle with..BCC.
A small minority of the 'supporters' have been more of a hindrance than help and have at times jeopardised the entire case.
I am sure there will be a reason and there will probably be a lot going on behind the scenes.

I saw on a program the other night that you ARE allowed to keep pitbulls (I know Lennox was only half) if they are registeres, neutered, insured...amongst other things, which he was all of the above wasnt he?!
Sorry if im pointing out the obvious but is he WAS neutered, insured blah blah and hadnt done any damage then why are they destroying him?! I only heard about this whole thing yesterday so am on catch up :)

Different areas of the UK legislate/apply the law differently.
In NI, any dog on the list must be destroyed, the council would not be taking this expensive and labour-intensive court case, otherwise. This has been going on since May 2010.
Also, Lennox's owners claim he is half American bulldog, not American PBT.

That apparently is the whole trouble; up until now (or shortly) there has been NO 4B exemption status for any dog "of the type"..i.e. pitbull in Northern Ireland.
So in fact, the authorities in NI are entitled to have seized the dog any time they wanted ,or any others of "the type".
Now ,I believe, the exemption clause is coming into being.Sad,always the dog that suffers in the end.

New date, Nov 11 (and well done to Amanda to staying on top of this story, most other papers have forgotten about it :()

http://www.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/n...ution-as-final-appeal-is-sought-16071429.html

Shame that the paper didn't see fit to tell both sides of the story. If you read it for the first time you would think the dog WAS dangerous. Nothing said about the fact that he has never gone for anyone or that the so called dog warden who states he is a dangerous dog... was actually having a cuddle from same "dangerous" dog (on film)

Or perhaps they could point their readers towards Victoria Sitwells excellent assessement. Must admit I was suprised she came out strongly in favour of Lennox but my opinon of her rocketed as a result.

Luci, it is based on legal argument and court hearings so can't be too emotive and MUST stick to fact.
The vid of the dog warden was not produced in evidence in previous court hearings.
Whether we like it or not the judge DID rule that he was of a type listed under the DDA.
Stilwell's comments were mentioned in a previous article.
It gives the Barnes' argument and also comments from supporters, in what way was is it one-sided?
Also there is a finite amount of space to work with in newspapers, it needs to be short and snappy, not a novela.
Journalists have to stick to strict protocol with legal issues and court cases, go sit in a public gallery then read a press report of the same case the next day and you will see what I mean! It would be lovely if everyone could write what they like but life isn't like that.

November 11th is the next day ..application for a further appeal. If the section 4b is in place by then I guess that might save the day?Wish someone would supply a couple of huge sacks of paper bedding and some tough toys to improve his conditions!
