As the title says really, any news on the walking wounded from Burghley???
I really loved Rose's Merlin!! Anyone heard how it is??
Also, all the poor horses who fell at the mushroom near the end??
I've never seen so many horses looking so shocked to have fallen, most landed hard on their heads, and i hear of two who got up wickering

I have no news, but agree re Karen's horse - he was so cute wasn't he, and obviously completely thrown by the crowds but kept trying
frown.gif
I hope he just over-reached badly, fingers crossed. I take your point re rotational falls (other thread), watching again today, they mostly (all?) got one or both front legs out to land on, then buckled and rolled down the hill, didn't they. THank goodness for the soft ground or there would be some even sorer jockeys, nevertheless.

Nobody's commented on the Goose episodes ie Joe's fall and many other near misses - do you think there was a problem with the footing going into the water, or just tired horses not being set up enough?

As i said in the other thread, i've only seen what was just on the BBC2, which only showed 2 fallers at the mushrooms, but they defo wern't rotational falls!! Yes, they were horrid, but they wern't rotational!!

I also saw 2 horses trip badly 1 or 2 strides before the goose in the water, Black Drum which was AMAZING in staying on his feet, and Black Andy who wasn't so lucky!! Again, another horrid fall!! I hope made to look worse cos the horses was slightly cast and unable to get up, and nothing worse!! Joe was showen a few mements later with a smile on his face, which i very much doubt he'd have if the horse was in anyway injured!!

Balck Andy def got up ok, saw him resting a hind leg but hopefully not too serious - don't think there was a hold on the course at any rate... Mushrooms: quite a few horse falls (check out the fence stats) and for every fall, another couple of near misses. Some of the horse falls characterised by decent approaches and what looked like good shots in, although there were one or two horrors (Twinkle Bee approached in trot!!!

We're fine HJ, just I'm a bit battered and stiff. Connie is 100% only one little scratch. Very sound and went galloping round her field this afternoon! I on the other hand am a little stiffer! Not really got any war wounds tho apart from a few scratches.

Just been watching my round on the DVD we get, over and over in slow mo. Connie had been flying foot perfect and hadn't touched a thing till that evil mushroom, the explanation is the holding ground and the fact she may have mis read it, other than that I shrug my shoulders. A few people had been muttering about it being a dangerous fence and when I went for a medical check over they thought that they should have least put some take off stones down. Horses like the ones that fell are not clumsy horses in fact quite the opposite. MW horse is exceptionally careful as is the Italian horse. My mare is soooo careful too.

I am over the moon with her tho, she was truly awesome!!

i hear that sadly karin donkers horse not great last night dont know about today, most of the others as you would expect. not heard about phillip duttons but think it was withdrawn last night so probably tweaked something as it finished pretty good and didnt appear unduly stressed but what ever happened was obvious within a few hours.

That's the one i was worried about
frown.gif
option a) was that it had just hit a nerve and would have been fine in 5 mins, but felt option b) was more likely, and that landing in the water something rather serrious had happened, which would then have been made worse by jumping the fence out the water
frown.gif

Although unlike a certain American rider, she couldn't pull the horse away from the fence, but the second it landed she got off....
But what a cracking horse!! looked sooooo classey and obviously genuine!!! I so hope it's alright!!!

So so glad to hear you are both ok

My heart went as we were standing there waiting for you to come around, and I went 'oh sh*t!!' she so didnt deserve that after such a cracking round. The commentators were saying what a cracking round you were having too.

She is such an awesome horse

Do you have plans for Badders 09?

Glad to hear you are ok, we were cheering you round when watching on TV yesterday and couldn't believe it when you fell as you were having such a good round. Not surprised you are stiff and bruised just glad no lasting injuries. Major well done again for just getting that far and making the majority of the course look 'almost' easy, not that I would ever even think of doing it myself!

Well done and lots of arnica for you!

Well done, your round looked great, I suppose you at least are in good company with some of those fallers.

Hope Connie is OK and that other horses recover well.

You looked fantastic on TV Laura! V Impressive! You dealt much better with your fall than a certain male jockey, whose expletives were audible even with low volume on the telly.
You'd done all the really tough stuff as well

Hope KD's horse is as ok as it can be

Glad to hear you're both OK - I think I have some photos of your dressage and from the cross country at the discovery valley if you're interested.

sooo glad my beautiful girl is all ok, just getting a bit angry now I can look back in retrospect at why that mushroom was allowed to be there.

Would love to see photos if you managed to take some/found a link to some! I have some pro ones I will post later this week.

HJ: Hoping to go to Barroca early in March then on to Badders if all goes well, I have decided after my seriously sketchy luck and numerous 'what ifs' this year that 09 is Connie and I's year...

Its at

the caption says that you are Emily Gilruth and Ashdale Cruise Master.
Just to warn you that they look a little horrific! But then seeing as both you and Connie are only a bit stiff its a bit of a miracle when you see the pictures!
Think there also a couple of nice ones of you at capabilities?!

Looking forward to seeing your professional ones!
Enjoy!

Very well done ElleJS, you were both looking so brilliant, very unlucky to get so punished by that vile mushroom. so glad to hear that Connie's okay, roll on next year.
really hope Karin's horse is okay, it looked very bad in slow-motion as it went through the water on 3 legs. i wonder if it did something to itself launching off the leaf pit so extravagantly. looked as if it had done a tendon or sth to me, tbh... really really hope not.
hope all the other fallers are okay too.

Karin Donkers horse I think TBH probably tweaked something when it launched off the drop/bank. At the time I thought it wasn't a pretty landing and think the drop in to the water probably made it worse. Such an honest horse though

Think the goose problems were just one of those things, Some probs can always be expected at 4star, particularly at water - thats why there is the biggest crowd around that jump! Jumps into water are difficult to judge striding and you just cant afford to get it wrong at that height.

Is Marie ryans horse ok? That was a horrible fall to watch made worse by the utter farce that followed it. It was all tangled in its reins, she was on the floor, some woman from the spectators was trying to catch the horse and making it worse, the fence judges seemed to take ages to react and then they hadn't stopped the next horse.
How the french guy on fairfax avoided an accident I don't know. The fence judge leapt in front of him waving a red flag, the horse had locked onto the fence and he did so well to pull it away. THEN they tried to say he'd had a run out!! i thought the crowd was going to lnych the fence judge. He got the BIGGEST cheer after they made him jump it again and he flew over it.
Matt W's fall was awful too made worse by the swearing and teddy out of cot moments that followed it.

You know something weird, laura's fall was the one I saw at burghley! I had my camera set up for the 2nd fence so didn't get a pic but it was the worse fall i think i've ever seen! At one point I didn't think your horse was going to be able to get off you. So glad your ok.
