"Same here! My mind seems to crave knowledge from google the minute the husband and kids are asleep! My internet history is a bizarre read!!"

Mine is pretty weird. MI5 probably has me on a watch-list because I am writing a novel about homicide detectives (not calling it a crime novel, because that's a specific thing, and it ain't that), so I often Google things around forensics, firearms, etc.

Sort of. I've been editing it for.... some... years now but it's at a point where it needs to be done. I finished a final(?) draft today. I'm really just pacing the internet at the moment and hoping to find inspiration for a proper title.

I'm actually looking at photos of some guy's 225g fish tank on a fishy forum. In other words, I'm achieving nothing.

You can send stuff to some publishers unagented. Or you can DIY the whole damned process. If you can handle the formatting techie faff, you can make very professional books. I've shied away from going the agent/trad publisher route. Maybe because I fear rejection? Maybe I don't want to wait years? Maybe because sending query letters sucks the life out of your soul? All of the above? Anyway, I would struggle to get anyone to look at this, given it's about 230,000 words long.

Yeah, cheers. Pretty sure that reading a review of Bryan Cranston's new show will not help me find a title, either. Show also looks a bit pants.

I am an early sleeper, but also early riser. Sadly, mum's dog, who we have recently inherited, gets up at 5.22 am regular as clockwork and then insists the rest of the house gets u with him

Could be worse, I’m a copy-editor/proofreader, and sometimes do a level of fact checking depending on the publisher/author whose book I’m working on, so my Google history is all over the place! ? BTW, if you do decide to self-publish via a publisher that does that, I’d happily give you a recommendation or two (and who to avoid!); just drop me a PM.

Definitely recommend ear plugs - my husbands a chronic snorer & since buying them 3 years ago rarely have a problem - they do take some getting used to as theres a knack to putting them in - I started off just using one as two was uncomfortable but soon got used to them - opted for Mac slim purple ones as have small canals - honest you wont look back!

OH can do all of the techie stuff, and I made my own imprint on the last one. So we're good in that department. If you know anyone who can help with marketing, on the other hand.... That's where I really struggle.

I also find copy-editing/proofreading challenging, as my eyes and brain just glaze over typos no matter how many times I reread it. It's odd. Relying on MS Word spellcheck to pick stuff up, but any suggestions?

Try proof-reading from the bottom of the page upwards. You don't read what you know you meant then, you read what's actually there. Not fool-proof, but definitely helps! (Used to work in publishing, and a would-be author if I could just pull my finger out...)
