hi
im looking into nott trent uni next year, city centre campus. i have a horse so need to look for a good yard as close to possible of the centre of nottingham. also need some info about the parking situation as if i bring my horse i will ahve to bring my car.
thanks alot!

Well I'm at Nottingham University so also in city and been here 1 1/2 years and to be honest I haven't seen anywhere about. Parking is horrendous on our campus now up to about £5 a day! Have car now though as I am in a house but don't keep my horse up here. Depends how far I suppose you are willing to drive- its going to be at least half an hour and then I wouldn't fancy it in rush hour! Depends I suppose how often you need to go i.e livery type!

Im Derby based, and have been to Notts Trent uni for various bits and bobs! There are a fair few liveries about, when at Notts Trent you aren't far from Trowell and Cossall which are littered with yards. I can't really recommend any of the top of my head, but if you came down for the day you'd definitly find loads. Also would you be based at main campus, because the horse related courses are Brackenhurst, which has its own yard.

I live and work in Notts. Depending if you need to be in halls first year, or student houses, you should be able to find somewhere to live/keep horse, but I would recommend living on the outskirts near where you decide to keep horse, and commute in on bus or train as otherwise you will have difficulty doing your horse and getting to uni! There is a livery yard not far from Clifton campus which isnt the greatest, but has a school and good turnout. You wont find anywhere to park in city centre, hence why you would be better off commuting in! Whatcourse are you doing?

There are two in Clifton not far from the uni campus. One has a school but the winter turnout is very limited, the other doesn't have a school but there is a paddock for riding/jumping in with daily winter turnout. The off road hacking is awesome from both yards. You might struggle to get a place at either yard. There are others a bit further out like Gotham, Barton in Fabis, Thrumpton, Bunny and West Bridgeford.

The yard at Barton in Fabis that another person mentioned is good. They have indoor school, menage and gallops and the hacking is wonderful. It is £35 per week D.I.Y which includes all your hay and straw. Their turnout is brill, quite small paddocks for a few horses to share and in the winter it gets knee deep in mud. I used that yard many years ago for six months when it first started up and it was broken into 3 times (very close to clifton, which is rough!!!) A girl even got her car stolen in broad daylight. It was left right outside the dutch barn where the horses are, and all the owners was knocking about, midday on a Saturday!.

There is no yards in Thrumpton, a farmer rents a 10 acre field out for £10.00 per horse which only has a field shelter suitable for one horse and there are no facilities, not even somewhere to groom your horse. His name is Mr Towers and you should be able to google to get the telephone number. At one time he was prepared to build stables if he had a firm commitment and they like their rent paid up quartely in advance. They are lovely farmers and have acres and acres of their own land which they would let you ride in.

Gotham is better for yards, dont personally know of any.

Near to the city there is Bunny Hill Top Equestrian Centre, Sam Humphries is the owner/manager and their facilities are very good, however I dont know about turn out as they are right on the top of a very high hill.

I think you would be better living near your horse, but the villages I mentioned dont do student accomodation and the house's to rent are few and far between and very expensive.

Its difficult because you are at city centre, if you were going to brac, it would be whole different ball game.

Im at the Brackenhurst doing equine HND, but if you are based in Nottingham centre - let me know where you will be living and will rustle through friends, phone book etc and check out for you if helpful.

Sorry, ill rephrase that, last i heard they are only taking on part liveries now. best bet is to give them a ring though, but they are a bit far out from notts city centre.

i'm just a bit worried that if i was to be living out of the city centre, not in halls, to be nearer him that i would miss out alot on the social side of uni?

ive got an offer for a journalism course at the city centre and its my top choice, i really liked it when i went for my admissions tests so really need to get the horse situation sorted!!

Aplogies Kat B if I sounded like I was criticising (sp)?? Bunny may well do DIY but it's still stupidly expensive there. I certainly would never put my horse there.

No its fine!! My mistake, ive jst always known them to take part livery, a friend spends alot of time up there so presumed that was the case all the time!
