Could it be a prankster from your yard or a friend pulling your leg maybe? Do you have a subscription with horse mag or anything? how would they have your number?

I got a phonecall this afternoon from a Lady at horse offering me an offer. I didnt really listen to what she offered because I was still trying to work out how she got my number. It was from a competiition I entered..

Nick.

when you say "annoynomous" do you mean the number is witheld?
I thought marketing calls normally show a number (well any I have received have done)
I think you have to use your gutt feeling if it does not seem right then maybe it is not.
Have you made your number available in a add paper or internet? as this is where they may have got your number.

my mother answered one of these from a mag, also number from a comp, she took the offer but i had her cancel it as i was cross theyd cold called me

yeah it comes up on my phone as anonymous. i entered something on here from the horse mag area of the forum and it was if you had a beach near you etc and asked for contact deatils so thats the only way they would have my number. i emailed my entry to the address provided.

There's an email came round work today - something about mobile numbers (presumably contract) going onto a 'phone book' type thing, and that you need to contact them to request you are not included - thats all I know but am sure if you google it...

i dont think its your horse, i think it horse magazine, the one on here. i had about 4 calls which they kept hanging up and today they actually said something. i thought it was an ex pestering me. do u think we should say something on that part of the forum.
i have been on this particular site where you can get peoples number and have tried taking mine off or making it ex directory as they call it dont know if it worked.

If it takes a while for the other person to say some-thing and the line sounds muffled it usually means they are calling from a dialler. A dialler is an automatic machine that dials numbers and when the line is answered, it gets out through to a sales person. This means the sales people are 'selling' rather than dialling non-answered phones. Diallers are usually used by larger sales companies.

but i have had 4 previous calls in which they have all hung up. sounded like she was in a fiald as it sounded very windy. im sort of glad im not the only one thats got these, but i dont want what they are offering me anyway as dont know if they are ligit, i would assume they would want my card details of a method of payment which i am not prepared to give over the phone.

In response to Loobyloosome, yes heard it on the Radio that a company have set up a phone book for mobile phone numbers, only problem is that since announcing the news on Friday so many people contacted them to have their numbers removed from the directory that the website and phone systems crashed and they now are unable to operate until it is sorted.

It was probably just the dialler playing up but you are quite right not to give card details over the phone if they ring you. If there is ever anything you do want to order, get their name, 'directory enquiry' them and phone them back on the proper number just in case.
