thinking on changing to one of these for maintaining my ponies condition/weight, been in discussion with liveries at the yard about it today! (13hh, welsh x, 5yrs, lives in)

any opinions on either of these feeds? good or bad?

I give Lance about half a scoop of safe and sound a day, just so he has something when Beau gets his tea, Lance is a very good doer though.

Are your ponies fatties, needing condition/weight on, what are you feeding them now?

pony has just moved inside and he's not coping well, he used to live out 24/7 and is a bit stressed in stable, he cant live out now due to an accident, he's dropped weight fairly quick over the last 6 weeks due to the stress i think, he was a fatty lol so needed to lose a bit so i just want to maintain the weight he's at now!

he's on hi fi original and leisure mix, i feel that upping the amount of hi fi is going to end up in 2 huge feeds a day which i dont really want, mix is just for his vits/mins etc as he got a tiny token feed of this a day when he lived out.

The thing wih hi fi though is it is fibre so a huge feed of that will keep him busy, and wont do him any ham, it can be used as a hay replacer after all.

If you just want him to hold his condition without gaining to much weight, what about Alfa A lite?

thought about the alfa a lite, iv emailed dengie to see what they think so just waiting on reply.

dont know he would eat all the hi fi if i had to make the feeds any bigger, he's not used to bucket feeds at all really, trial and error with it is the best way i suppose.

i know someone that uses the safe and sound and her horse looks great.

Safe and sound is definitely very palatable! however it isnt as densly packed as Dengie so will cost more to feed.

I mix a bit of speedibeet in with Lance's, his is just a token feed though.

I use Safe and Sound for my three, two natives and one WB and they all look great on it and love it!

Safe and sound for my two, a welsh section D and a Fresian x they love it and look well I can keep the weight down and its good for the feet. Its gone up in price about £8.50 a bag but I dont feed anything else other than good hay.

I use Healthy Hooves for my Haflinger and she adores it - lovely chop and nuts in there and mint and garlic. But low cal/lami safe too! I feel like eating it myself. And the robin in the feed barn likes to eat any spillage.

She gets about 4 small round scoops a day and an apple or two, and ad lib hay.

Shes unshod, and used to be on Farriers formula but this is a complete feed and much cheaper and convenient.

im liking the added garlic in it, one of the pro's compared to the safe and sound, my pony is on garlic all the time and like you say if its in the complete feed its easier and cheaper! iv emailed my feed man so gonna see what he comes up with!

I feed safe and sound to our golden oldie, he has always looked a dull in the winter and was fedd fibre nuts, chaff and beet. This year he has had a scoop once a day and looks fab.
