Thinking of getting a Point Two air jacket as i'm getting fed up of wearing the very uncomfortable back protector.
Are they worth the money?
I've seen someone competing in one and they seem to have a lot of movement.

Knowing me i'd forget to unclip myslef from the saddle whilst dismounting and inflate.....

I have one and always wear it hacking. It is really comfortable - a bit warm in the summer but still better than a normal bp.

I have never forgotten to unclip it, but then immediately before dismounting I have to gather up my reins and grab a bit of mane (otherwise, he just walks off as I swing my leg over - grabbing mane stops me jabbing him in the mouth as I jump down). As I sort myself out and look down, it reminds me to unclip.

Certainly worth the money! I am over 50 yrs old and know that if I come off I will certainly break something. My horse is a Welsh, forward going and gets excitable and anxious at times.

They look comfortable. the air jacket would replace my Racesafe which is used every day. I'd wear the two together for competing (XC only) but just the air jacket for everyday schooling and hacking.

Hmmm, i'd better get saving

I never ride without mine and I think it's worth every penny, it's comftable easy to use and I can't imagine being without it now

I have a point two and if it wasn't for the fact I got it for half price I would of gone for the Hit-Air. A lot cheaper and lighter and far less bulky then the point two.

I wouldn't have been able to afford one normally, however they have the odd competition if you "like" their facebook page, I managed to get one for half price last weekend!

Agree with another poster, had I not got one for half price, I would have also considered the cheaper hit-air.

Erm, you wear it over the body protector normally :D

I haven't had mine long, but will most likely wear it all the time on my youngster when he comes home, I wear it to hack and jump my knobler ;), and ofc will wear over a bp to go XC.

It doesn't matter if you forget to unclip yourself as long as you get off properly and don't jump off - I forgot all the time when I first had it and the only time it went off was when I fell off!

Love mine I was forced to wear one by my husband after a bad accident last year as he knew I wouldn't wear a normal BP in the hot weather but never felt any hotter in the point 2 than in a T shirt because they have to be quite loose.

I wanted a hit air because they are less bulky but we couldn't get one anywhere at the time but happy with the point 2 :-)

Speak for youself :), plenty of us wear them on their own and they were originally marketed as full waistcoats for use on their own. Only BE require them to be used with a body protector, they are highly protective in their own right, though obviously both together is even more protective.

ps I have also jumped off three times in mine and it's not gone off, but my horse stood still and I am tall (but so is he!)

My sister wears one all the time..!! Was at a XC comp, fell off at a jump, jacket failed to go off..!! She was dragged across the ground until the jacket was actually ripped off her back, luckily she was not seriously injured. She rang then up to complain they said sorry and sent her a new one , but even so it could of been very very nasty. Turns out the jacket was faulty. After that I decided not to bother getting one , don't fancy being dragged by a galloping horse.

Glad your sister is ok!

Mine was tested on me before I bought it and thankfully I've not tested it since.

The shop I buy from tests them on you. From hearing this I suggest everyone should test theirs, but it's £17.50 to replace the cannister :0 !

The trigger mechanism has been changed lately, my new one is much thicker than the previous one I had. I suggest that anyone who has an old version should ask P2 to replace it with the new one - they wouldn't have changed the design if they didn't need to!

I don't think this was the first time she had fallen off with it on, and it had inflated before. The company investigated and just said it was faulty, and sent her a new one.

Blimey, that's not very comforting!

I'm beginning to wonder if they should maybe have done a product recall on the older, thinner triggers ???? Take a look on the website and anyone with a thinner trigger will be able to see how theirs is different from what is on them now.

Can i strongly suggest you get the Hit Air - not the P2. I did all the research and quite apart from the saving - think the Hit Air is about £100 + cheaper - buts its lighter and far, far less bulking - you hardly notice people wearing it - particularly if you already have a black BP. Seriously, a much better purchase IMO.

Hi, I have just become the very proud owner of a Kanteq body protector. I would advise you to try one. They are a bit expensive (£235) but you really feel like you are not wearing a body protector at all. I am a size 8 with big boobs so all body protectors felt like my chest was in a vice! The Kanteq has panels which slide to allow you to breathe fully. They also have shoulder protectors built in and you can swing your arms around like a helcopter if you so desire with no restrictions. They come women shaped so actually fit!! They also have sliding panels inside which allow your ribs to expand and contract - always good to be able to breathe!! I really cant praise them enough....look on website! All you have to do is contact Wendy who is maker and is lovely and helpful. They are fitted to your specific shape and can be adjusted if a not perfect. They also have a curve at your back so feel very natural on....honest!!

I would have bought a Hit Air but for I was, long story, forced to buy a P2. However, there are a couple of things to note about the Hit Air

- when it blows up the bag is exposed. If you are hunting in it and jumping blackthorn hedges it would be better to have a cover on the bag!

- from pictures I have seen, the attachment is the screw fitting which the P2 used to have. This is, I can speak from experience NOT SAFE. It can come unscrewed over time, or you can screw it up but not tight enough. My original P2 fastening pulled loose with enough force to melt the cable cover and did not inflate. If you do have a screw fastening you should remove it and replace it with a clip, preferably a climbing or steel karabiner.

- again from pictures the Hit Air is attached to the saddle D ring. This is also NOT SAFE. If you split a saddle open, the D rings are usually only attached with a couple of staples and could pull out. If D ring attachment is still the case, you should buy a stirrup bar attachment from P2 or make your own and attach your Hit Air to that.

Better safe than sorry!

you dont only need to wear a BP as well if you are an eventer, any XC comp will require a BP.

Id go for a hitair having researched and tried both.

Point 2s aren't perfect, but do offer some benefits. The most important point though is that they are NOT body protectors and as such, must be worn in combination with BPs lest the jacket does you more damage by exploding and putting that pressure directly across your spine/ribs rather than your BP. There are now hybrids from P2 though. They're very expensive, but do stop you needing both.

Cptrayes the Hit Air does attach to the stirrup bars & NOT the d-rings.
There isn't any screw attachment either that I can see (other than where the gas canister screws in) in fact all of the attachments appear the same as the P2...

Ah after looking at the video on the Point2 website I see what you mean. I will have a close look at that attachment. My jacket was set up for me by Hit Air so I'm pretty confident it's been done safely.

THIS is ABSOLUTE RUBBISH (and quite possibly grounds for being sued)
