Can i ask any adults riding ponies, what size saddle they use? It seems that my daughter has outgrown her saddle, her knees come over the front rolls. Her much loved 14 hand pony is NOT for sale she says, and anyway, she carries her weight fine. Its just those long legs. I wondered how others cope?

I'm 5'6, adult size 8-10 with long-ish legs, and boyo is a 14.1hh Connemara with appropriate back length conformation-wise. Current saddle is a either a 16" or 16.5" (gut says 16" but at work so can't check) working hunter (he isn’t *badly* put together at all but we found GPs didn’t accommodate his shoulder too well). Fits me just fine.

I'm 5ft7 ish and i ride a 13.2hh Fell Pony. Hes got a 17inch saddle but my legs come over the top of the knee rolls, but hey hoo, it doesnt matter!! i can't afford a new saddle nor can the pony get a bigger one but we still manage fine! :D

I ride in a variety of saddles from 15in to 18in on various different beasts. I had a 16in in my 13.2hh Fell pony so I would say a 14hh would do a 16in and could probably get away with a 17in depending on the ponies build.

I've got a lady who is about 5'10" riding my 14.1 hh pony. We use a Freeform SB, which is a treeles saddle designed for short backs and adults riding. Could it be that your daughter has got her stirrups too short? She shouldn't be worrying about where her legs end up on the pony's side, she should have her leathers the right length regardless.

My 148 pony takes a 16" :o he's so diddy but my old pony who was also 148cm was in a 17"

I have ridden in saddles as little as 14" just need to make sure my stirrups are a bit longer.

Perhaps you could look into getting a slightly more forward cut saddle to accommodate her long legs?

It really depends on the type of pony. I have a 16.5" on the 14.2 tb/welsh pony I ride but my friend has a 17" on her 14.0 Fell pony. Best to try and see.

i have a 12.2hh pony and can't ride him with a saddle, i'm too big for any saddle that fits him as he is short backed.

bareback is more fun anyway!

My 14.2 has a 17'' but he is long backed so thats possibly not much help. I have ridden tiny welshies but I dont know how big his saddle was but I never had a problem itting in it but I'm a short ass so again possibly not that much help :o.

Try a flat seated saddle, then she can slide her bum back a bit to accommodate her legs!

I've got a 17" close contact saddle on a 14.2hh, and I'm about 5ft 7/8" with long legs between hip and knee. Although the saddle is 17", is actually tiny and lightweight, with a very flat seat.

I think it very much depends on the shape of the pony and the shape of the saddle, because I tried all manner of 17" saddles on my other 14.2hh cob and couldn't find any that fitted her and also me.

I got advice about this and my local saddle fitter agreed that my 14.2 cob couldn't take any bigger than a 16". I think get the max the pony can take and if her legs still come over, it's tough. Have u tried a different style of saddle?
