I have a foal with a lump on her hock she got being either kicked or stood on in the field. The lump is about 3 weeks old and has gone down considerably from when it happened.
She had x rays and the vets say its a mineral deposit left from the blood etc that caused the swelling.
The vets said that the lump is purely aesthetic and i neednt be concerned and it is likely to go down in 6/9months. They said i can use a blister to promote blood flow to the area to speed up breakdown of the mineral deposit.
I just wondered if anyone had any suggestions as to anything else i could do to help the breakdown and decrease lump size.

I wondered about magnets ( to increas blood flow) but i think you have to be careful in their use on foals Am i right? not sure where i have heard that?? and also possibly ultra sound purely as i know someone with kidney stones who had them ultra sounded to break them into smaller bits, (so my logic which can be a bit skewed) wondered whether this was a possiblity.

Anyway thanks if you have gotten to the end of this post you need a medal!!
Any suggestions gratefully received

I would leave alone for the time being but keep an eye on it and if it does not go down then look again 3 weeks is a relatively short time and might still be a bit sore with foals they are growing and on the go so most generally just disappear over time.

When my boy was a foal, he was forever being knocked and bumped in the field and constantly came in with lumps. They did go down in time as he grew. So try not to worry too much. Yes ultrasound/magnetic therapy(pulsed would help) but if I were you I would let nature and time take over. One thing we always used on the foal was Arnica Gel rubbed into the affected area twice daily. This seemed to aid the recovery process. Good luck

Thanks guys i dont intend on doing anything at the moment was just seeing what people thought about possible methods for future.
Thanks for advice fingers crossed that it goes down over time
