I am increasingly finding riding painful..

my hip/knee/sciatic nerve on my right side complains greatly as soon as 4 hours after riding..and the next morning..well even getting out of bed is difficult!!!But i dont have the same problems when i do in-hand..it's just when i ...**ahem** get my leg over so to speak!!

Soooo, i'm seriously thinking about taking up Driving..and just carry on with the in-hand..

Anyone know where i can get some damn good tuition???

i'm based in Somerset.............

Sorry to hear you are having problems getting your leg over -so to speak

I can't help on the tuition front but sounds a great idea - good luck finding someone who can help

Have you tried to find out the reason behind the pain? Maybe you already know... It's just that I was experiencing bad pain after riding and investigated it further resulting in an operation. I'm so pleased that I had it done as otherwise things could have got a lot worse if it had been left.

unfortunately i suffered a really nasty fall..horse reared over on me on the road, when i was 15..

i broke my pelvis, disloacted my right hip, broke my right femur in two places, dislocated my right knee, broke my right fibia and totally smashed my right ankle which needed rebuilding with plates and screws, which are still in situ..

it took my 5 months to learn to walk again..

so basically it's all buggered..

i made a simiar enquiry about learning to drive a while ago on here and received a very helpful PM from Rara_2008 which i shall post below!!!! I, however, note you will not be driving the spawn of satan ( minis

"The society for competitive sport driving is here

On the forum atm. is a discussion involiving minis!

and the indoor winter version, where a notable amount of mini's do well

and the showing society, and they do other things like trec.

A list of all registed teachers

http://www.britishdrivingsociety.co.uk/contacts/light_harness_horse_instructors.htm

The BDS also has areas, and area commisioners, and they will know any unregistered decent teachers. In driving every one we have come across hs been more than willing to help. They really are a friendly bunch compared to those stressy riders. At my last event a friend of our in the unffilated class's lorry broke down on the way, the national horse 4 in hand champion saw her on the way and took the pony there, whilst another unffiated person took the carriage. From my experience in riding they'd prey you miss your class!

Sorry for to much info- good luck!

Let me know how you get on as you are in my area, but also Faye I have a little trap you might be interested in as sold my daughters pony before xmas and they didnt want his trap, it fits up to 14.2hh....we are in Frampton Cotterell so not too far for you.

The British Driving Society has a list of trainers - I found this the best place to start.

I took up driving a few years ago and now drive my welsh cob and my mini shetland - it's great fun, definately worth a try.
