I'm moving to London very soon and will be working about a 2min walk from Earls court tube station, hence I was looking at living somewhere SW (District line) to try and ensure an "easy" commute to work. I have friends who live in Richmond, Fulham, Wimbledon, Wandsworth and Putney, and so was keen on these areas. I'm really keen to keep my hand in on the horse scene too, possibley look at loaning/helping out a few days a week (to keep me sane and as to not get chubby!), so which areas for living etc could you recommend that have reasonable livery yards nearby or within an easy-ish commute?

Any general advice on living SW would be most appreciated, as I'm very excited!

I replied in the Soapbox one but saw this one too :) If you need a decent commute to Earls Court, have a look at Southfields and Wimbledon. Both nice spots - couple of friends of mine have bought places in Southfields lately, and it's really lovely. Has a great villagey feel, is near the A3, and has a District line station going to Earls Court. Also convenient for Clapham and Wandsworth. Wimbledon is more expensive but has more open spaces, and a great town. Am a fan of both of them.

Do you have a car? If so, there are a number of yards out on the A3 corridor (think Claygate, Esher, Chessington), which may be worth approaching. I'm not sure about yards accessible by public transport.
