Blimey! Just clipped my daughter's Welshie this afternoon - trace clip - having only ever in my long career clipped at the hairiest a hunter, and mostly clipped-all-year-round warmbloods.
What a shock to they system!
How on earth do you get straight lines in shag pile?!

I tend to brush the hair downwards (or whatever way the coat should go) and then lift the clippers out from the line to trim off the long hair and so give a straight line - does that make sense - not sure if I have described it very well.

I never bother to even try for lines on shaggies........clip the lot off first time around, then four weeks later you can actually see where you are going.

Well, that was the plan, but our little welshies looked so gorgeous clipped right out and going out with their mini quarter sheets on that I never did do the sensible bib clip thing second time around.

Oooh don't tempt me!
My daughter would be chuffed, my husband would be furious, and my younger daughter would rebel until I clipped her shetland out!
Speaking of which ..... he's supposed to be having his neck and belly off as well, but a) he's terrified of the clippers (being frightened of nothing else on the planet) and b) how on earth do you get down that LOW?!

I gave my mini shettie a blanket clip this year as he gets so hot - he looks sooo cute!

Strangely clipping is also the only thing he's been afraid of, I've got him more used to it by standing him next to my horse whenever he is being clipped and then borrowing my friend's super quiet clippers to actually clip him. He has actually got much calmer and I didn't have any problems doing the blanket clip - even did the 1/2 head which I was amazed he let me do given how scared he used to be!

Oh and point b - it is not easy!! I ended up crouched on the floor not good for the back. On the plus side they are so small there's not much to do!

Got the lines straight as suggested above.
