Our Clydesdale x (who has the feet of a clyde) is abit unhelpful when picking out his feet!
I think he is not used to his legs clipped yet as before you could pick his feet up fine by grabbing and lifting up on the feather.
When you ask now his leg goes weak but doesn't lift up for you to grab foot. So it's hard and back breaking to get em up!
I have tried to dig the hoofpick into his pastern thinking that would make him lift, but it's not working very well. He just still stands there.
Naturally I ask 'lift-up' (my pick up leg word) and push with my arm into his leg/knee.
He's just bloody hard work and is killing my back! Once foot is up he holds it pretty light!!
Any better tips??

Give his chestnut a pinch - works everytime.

I second that - always teach my horses to pick up from chestnuts, now I only have to touch my mares and she picks up.

It's OK - you don't know these tricks til people tell you about them!! It doesn't matter how long you've been involved with horses you can always learn new stuff. I should know - been doing it 24 yrs now and still learning !!
