After getting back into riding after a few years break, I have put a little bit of weight on. I'm about a 14/16 and I don't feel confident in just having jods on with a t-shirt. I've tried a long t-shirt but they are huge and as my problem area is my thighs, hips, bum and tummy (everything then

) I just look even bigger in a large over sized t-shirt with little legs sticking out. Anyone got any suggestions?? I did wonder about a shirt or something more fitted open with a vest top underneath?? Whats anyone else wear??

well I'm the same size as you but I just wear what I'm comfiest in. Also I'm cheap so must of my riding wear is my Dads golf cast offs and I resemble a tramp anyway! Polo shirts and Rugby shirts mainly.

My ma was a 22-24 but's now an 18. She wears poloshirts and tshirts. Something with an open neckline is usually good, as it draws attention up not down. If you're uncomfortable is tshirts, try a light gilet or waistcoat that is tapered at the waist to try and "split you up". Don't zip it all the way up, again leave a neckline.

tie a jumper round your waste, will pull the t-shirt into your waste but covers ya bum and thighs and leaves enough t-shirt out the front to cover thighs also,i love it,hate showing my butt in jodhs

Dark colour jods for the illusion of a slimmer silhouette? I find the long tshirts get in the way and get caught up in the cantle and generally annoy me. What about some sort of gilet/bodywarmer thingy on top to gloss over the tummy and hips?

I'm no good to you really, I hardly ever find the time to get dressed properly to go riding and end up riding in dirty jeans a polo shirt and my muck boot riding wellies, which is what I wear every day (but I have several sets the same, I do change my clothes lol)

I am not a 'larger lady' (!) but I mostly ride in jeans and then put half chaps on.

I have the jeans from M&S that have a lycra content and unless I ride for more than about 3 hours, I dont have any discomfort!

Thanks everyone. Great ideas everyone - love them!! The open neckline idea is I think why I don't like the large t-shirt I currently have.

Methinks I need to go shopping.....!

Yep definately polo shirts! I also find that full seat jods/breeches are much more flattering as well. Also a fitted waistcoat/gilet thing can work wonders to give you less waist and more boobs!

I'm a 16-18 and ride in joddys and whatever on top, I don't tend to care what i look like most of the time though. If however I am in the mood to look decent, I wear 1/2 chaps which seem to make my thighs look slimmer, and a gillet or v neck (rugby shirt collar type) top. Joules tops look good on anyone IMO!

Tip:Get stretchy jeans from Sainsburys - very stretchy and cheeeeep. I wear them cus I can't usually be bothered to get changed. Size 14 is not a larger lady though IMO

Echo palomino_pony - size 14 is hardly "larger" !

I am size 16-18 and because I am short I look really humungous, like a weeble with little fat legs sticking out the bottom, really.

I find black is my best friend - black breeches, black polo or t-shirt and waistcoat over the top. Paradoxically, slightly fitted clothing looks better than very loose baggy clothing (SOMEONE - mentioning no names, Cazza - referred to my oversized black fleece as my "walking tent" for months until i gave in and bought some fitted tops).

I'm a 16 - 18 and I tend to wear black joddies and a black/blue t-shirt of my OH. To be honest I'm not bothered what I look like. I can't afford to be in all the trendy gear. I'd rather spend money on Athena than on my self!!!!
