will be inetrested to see this as i have a harry Hall jacket which have just worn to muckl out in for 2 hrs and i am soaked. Is only a yr old too and not worn every day ie; only spring and autumn.
I got fed up of buying horsey coats only for them to leak the 1st time it rained heavily in the end i bought a gore-tex lowe alpine outer layer and it is fantastic as it is just an outer i bought a size too big and wear it over the top of the other 15 layers i have on to keep warm! As it is breathable, windproof and waterproof it is perfect all year round as well, couldn't recommend it more.
I have a Seeland jacket and hat, cost me around £160 on a show special offer, the only fully waterproof coat I've had next to my original Barbour. Lightweight and washable.
I posted about this not so long ago. I went to the shops and bought a Puffa - looking at their website I didn't realise they did coats that weren't just really puffy (which I am not a big fan of!) but it turns out they do. Mine is brilliant. Keeps me dry as a bone. Has a detachable hood aswell. Nice, square, deep pockets (not those annoying slanted zippy ones which scratch your hands in the cold), two hand warmer pockets, mobile phone pocket and vents if you want to ride in it which I have yet to try out as I still cant ride! Really warm aswell and cheaper than most of the Mustos. Mine was £82, which for me is alot but worth it.
Musto and Toggi, the double layered long jackets are amazing, only thing is my Toggi one which costs £200 (but I won it) is so nice I won't wear it to the horses.
I weat my Parelli Jacket which never leaks and keeps me warm as toast, nit that I wear toast lol

hmmm - blushing a little here! I have never actually washed my goretex ones - I sponge off any major grubby bits but that's about it. My other one is a sort of mock suede, fleece lined jacket which just goes in the washing machine and comes out as new - never needs treating.
My Mark Todd jacket hasn't let me down yet and had it for over a year and it has been washed. Even today all of my clothes were dry underneath.
The collar is also much higher than most jackets which I like as it stops the wind getting the back of my neck, and my ears.
I have 2 toggi ones, one is a normal jacket, the other is a fleece inside of a jacket both are quite old but despite being washed time after time they never leak....
ditto musto. My Combination jacket is still as waterproof as the day I bought it 8yrs ago.
RE washing it - shoved it in the washing machine on a 30degree wash! Gets washed every couple of months then occasionally re-waterproofed with stuff from the hiking shop.
However, if you don't want to spend so much - get a cheap cagool from a hiking shop and wear it over your normal jacket. Saves it getting grubby too!
How come I can buy a cheap waterproof breathable rug for my horses who live out 24/7 for around £40, that never leak, but cant buy a waterproof breathable coat for myself for that sort of money???
Its not as if you would need more material either....
Bought one of those long waxed coats from HOYS for £25 quite lightweight but find it warm enough with a jumper.Has been great in the recent rain.Actually go home dry for a change.
No excuse for not riding in rain now!
