Find the whole thing a bit bewildering so wondering if anyone can suggest the right way to go please for the following horse. TB, turned out on 5 acres of old pasture with 23 sheep. Poo pick daily through the spring and summer but not so religiously now the days are shorter. Out 24/7 in summer, in at night once the clocks change. No other horse poo in field but obviously the sheep are quite messy. Have been using Equest for the last 12 months but that shop no longer sells wormer so havng to look elsewhere and dont want to be blinded by science. Could some kind person suggest a plan to follow for the next 12 months. Thanks.

Horse Health Magazine have a good article on worming, http://issuu.com/wharncliffe/docs/hh_oct_nov

I would consult your vet they should be able to advise a plan for you.

sheep are the best worm hoovers you can get!

you should get minimal problems if you are poo picking frequently, due to the drop in temperature once a week in winter is sufficient.

however you still need to target worm for tapeworms once or twice a year (sept/oct, march/april) and I would always include a dose for bots/encysted red worms in the winter.

your summer grazing season, personally as we have a similar set up to you I do a single ivermectin treatment half way through the season. When I was able to do my own worm counts I did that instead, depends on what suits you really.

i would do egg counts your horse should not hold worms on the regime you have him on what i do is egg count three times a year and just worm spring and autum for tape worms because egg counts dont detect tape worms!
