Just wondering if anyone has been out riding in the snow? It is very soft here in the fields and is starting to melt so I don't think it would ball up in the feet. Am considering going out in it today and just wondered if anybody else has been?

I rode out for about an hour and a half in it on Sunday when it was at its worst.

He is shod on his fronts, so I just put loads of vaseline in and we had no balling up issues as the snow just fell out as he walked along. I took the tub of vaseline and a hoof pick out on the hack with me for emergency use as I didn't want to get stuck far from home with no way to sort it out.

Enjoy it!

You have snow! :O -- only hard frost here!

Think it should be fine, just make sure to pick his/her feet out after ;]
Last year I was *forced* to ride in snow, considering it was here for months (what seemed like years.......) :P

VASELINE YES!! Completely forgot about that!

Arrrhhhh hate hate hate this weather, wish we did have snow then i would ride, but we only have frozen ground and ice which can be lethal. All arenas are frozen except the indoor ones, so have had to make the hard decision to give the ponio a week (well as long as this weather persits) off. Puts me in a foul mood!

When i lived down south i always used to ride in the snow, used to put lard in hooves (cheaper than vas) and always carried a hoof pick. Enjoy.

*shuffles off to marestare*

I tried goose fat last year but didn't work - still ended up with icy balls under their feet. Not so worried for a bit of turnout but didn't want to ride in those conditions - we need to do a bit of roadwork around here to get to any off road hacking and the ground in the school was frozen. So I tend to give him a holiday as he doesn't get any time off the rest of the year!

I rode in it on my boy for the first time monday night. Put vaseline on but didn't really work (don't know what I'm doing wrong lol) but he wasn't walking on platforms just had a bit of snow flattened into his hoof and he was okay. But they soon flicked out when we done some trotting. Go out and have loads of fun! :)

What snow? we go from snow, to frozen solid, to mud and back again, I am well hacked off with this winter.

Soft snow is OK, just beware of frozen ruts/divots beneath. It is the slushy stuff that balls up most, depends how cold it is with you.

Yes we rode ours out sunday night.. loads of vaseline & no balling up.. rode last night & the snow was more icy & we had a bit of balling but they did just keep falling out. it was lovely..
