Just wondering if anybody already does this and enters the competitions etc. Thinking it could give us something to focus on.

How do you find it? Do you ever have trouble putting together the courses?

I don't compete (yet) but might do in the future as fiance has taken over one of my ponies to do agility with recently (gives youngster a job while he continues to grow and is really helping non-horsey fiance build confidence with the ponies!). My friend is European champion though with her little rescue pony, and runs courses in Wales - she has a FB page and website and is well worth following to see some of her videos! https://www.facebook.com/positiveequitation/?fref=ts and http://www.positive-equitation.co.uk/
You really don't need a lot of equipment especially for the lower levels, and there is enough flexibility to be imaginative and use what you have available - a few poles, flags, cones or buckets, bit of rope, electric fence posts and then stuff like a shower curtain, empty milk cartons, plastic plates, tinsel. Oh, and a bit of tarpaulin. It's not difficult to make the courses (I look them up to use as ideas for setting up my own and training focuses.)

I might be interested in doing this. Is there a dress code for the handler as in traditional horse shows?
I assume you would need too wear a hat, gloves and boots for safety? Are you required to wear riding clothes?
Just wondering as I was always told its respectful to the judge to be smart at a show.
Is this the same in horse agility or is it much more casual.

I've just looked on website and it says as long as you are safely dressed to be around horses there is no dress code.

Sorry i have no helpful advice but this sounds amazing and something different to do with my pony(actually big horse hah)! Do you have a link to a website or anything?

Currently we are retraining his schooling and I think he may get quite bored doing the same kind of things in the school (maybe i do a little bit too....) this might be useful for keeping things interesting :) :)

This is the site: http://www.thehorseagilityclub.com/online-horse-agility/

Unfortunately you don't get to see any of the courses before joining so you can't see how feasible it is for you but there were a couple of demos on YouTube of one of the competition courses.

I haven't joined yet, but still toying with the idea. I bought a couple of hula hoops the other day, not that I think I'll be able to get him to stand with his feet in one of those whilst I walk away any more than I can in the arena generally ;)

Ahh damn. It would be nice to see an example of the type of course the have (or previous courses) to see if it would be worth joining.

Hmm... may have to have a think too! There seems to be quite a range which is encouraging, as i wouldn't like to join with my novice horse and have to try and get him to do all sorts i know he wouldn't do at first. Seems like there are some walk classes too....

Every month we will be posting a Horse Agility Course onto this page (see below for this month’s course) that you can easily recreate at home. That sounds the part but then they may have a different idea of 'easy to recreate' than me :D

Just to add you have to start at the starter level, so all done at walk with only occasional small bit of trot and challenges are easier than at higher levels. You can only move up levels by gaining points xx
