anybody elses grass not growing that much?

Usually by this time of year I'm beginning to panic about how fat Barney, the companion, is looking but he looks great. This year my grass has really not taken off growth wise. Just been out to check the horses (they are out 24/7 now) and I reckon I'm going to have to start feeding Old Mare as she has lost a little bit of condition since being turned out (only a couple of weeks). Don't get me wrong the grass has grown a titchy bit and looks a healthier colour but not really that much

Anyone else in the same boat?
 
Actually I should elaborate: On the field I have virtually no grass yet. As yours, it's looking healthier and has gone greener but not coming through strongly.

Everywhere I have to mow it however it's coming through thick and fast and looks temptingly edible even to me after 6 months of feeding bought in haylage this year.
 
Hmmm well my lawn has had 2 cuts already seems to grow overnight but my paddock is nice and green but short! Think it's because it was cropped so low over winter it's taking it's time to recover. My centre paddock was rested from Jan and i put them on it last week but theres not a lot there really. A few showers and some warm sun and we'll be well away!!!
 
Ha ha, yes my lawn seems to be the exception to the rule as well! I got the mower out last weekend (temperamental sit-on thing that I hate with a passion), got one circuit round and the cutting deck stopped working so now I have a stupid race track round the lawn.

Just wish my paddocks would revive. They have nearly eaten the 'new growth' off the summer paddock and now I'm not sure what to do! Winter paddock still looks a bit trashed. Its been pretty cold here over the last few days and I guess its been holding back the growth
 
Mine was overgrazed by the previous tenant.....but after 7 weeks rest its coming through nice and thick now.....horses are still in their 'winter' paddock looking longing over the leccy fence....but the grass in with them must be coming through because they are leaving the hay to go down the bottom end and nibble.

I think I will leave it a few more weeks to fully recover though.
 
Our grass is still nice and brown!!!!! Luckily we have snow forecast tomorrow so at leat it will be a pretty colour again!!!!!! Our grass must be comming through though as my horses are no longer stood at the gate all day long!

Our summer paddocks are looking green but still very short, having best rested since November. YO has actually had them fed this year to help as the grass really took a hammering with the dry summer.

Our winter paddocks are also sprouting some grass so they can now have a nibble graze as well as some hay put out.

We are still hoping to be on them for early - mid May.

Everything is a bit late this year due to the fairly cold winter we have had.
 
No we have the opposite problem of bright green dense grass and rapidly expanding ponies. We're on clay and it seems the more you trash it in the winter the faster it grows in the spring.
 
Same here - hardly anything and over grazed from winter and a bit poached. Struggling to recover as my shettie thinks its fine to walk through the electric fence whatever the charge and the others follow!
 
Ours is definitely growing but slowly!!:rolleyes: We need some more rain (bizarre I know!) and the temperature to pick up in the night as well for it to grow - its is still too cold overnight for it to really grow at the moment. Still no bad thing as both of mine are prones to being chubsters!! They are both still munching their way through a couple of small sections of hay and not leaving any where as when it starts to grow properly and fills them up hay is the first thing they go off.:rolleyes:
 
Our two are in a small paddock that is well over grazed so sadly hardly any grass coming through :( we are still feeding hay, it's costing me a fortune!!! :-o

Saying that I'm glad really as my 29 year old dude is in that paddock so he doesn't get much grass as before that he had to be muzzled as he is over weight and a prime target for lami (though touch wood has never yet, but I'm taking all precautions possible) and his field mate has to be in the small paddock due to navicular. So all in all I guess I can't moan as there are reasons they are in that little over grazed paddock!!!
