5100kg unladen for a 7 1/2 ton horsebox. They were spot checking @ a show last week and a few people were well over weight. Only cost £6.20 @ a weigh bridge, if you have'nt already checked yours, go and do it soon as they could be spot checking in yr area!!!!

we had ours weighed recently

meh..

i recommend it to everyone aswell, definitley useful to have your mind at rest about whether you are under/over weight limits! xx

Yes - a lot, I used my local farmers weighbridge and I was very disappointed with the weight of my new build! Was 5760kg with nothing on board and empty water tank

(Specification was supposed a 2 ton payload)

All you need to check is this last brake test printout at the MOT as the axle weights are on there so it would save the cost of a seperate weighing .Also it is important to keep an eye on axle weights as well as total weight as these catch many people out particularly front axle as once you put living and a luton on most 7.5 tonne trucks are near their front axle limit if in doubt these maximum axle weights are on the plating certificate in the cab you will be illegal if either of the axles are overloaded even if the total weight is below 7.5t.

When I went looking for a 7.5 ton lorry I was determined to get one with sufficient payload. I saw a real beauty, it had everything.......... apart from payload. There was 800kg, that was all! I couldn't have put one horse on plus me, wife & daughter & been in weight. I even saw some that were almost 7.5 ton with nothing on them.

I eventually bought a Tristar, with living, nothing too special but tidy, clean & comfortable & it weighs in at 5.6 tons, so almost 1.9 ton payload which is plenty for me.

I think that anyone who wants a 7.5 ton lorry shouldn't entertain buying one with out a weighbridge certificate.

My big horse was 775kg when weighed at the vets a few years ago. He has lost some weight now but I would think is still around the 700kg mark.

Yes I went with the people and lorry to have it weighed when we bought it so that I knew exactly what was in it when weighed as well as being happy about the weight.

I am now looking for a 3.5 t. When I enquire about ones for sale my first question is what is the unladen weight of the vehicle. So far I haven't reached question 2 as no one has an answer for my first one.

Please don't think I am trying to put a cog in the wheel, but I am sure it is not just the overall weight that counts. Somewhere in my distant memory tells me the real problem is with the axle weights. Most horse boxes carry the horses over the last 50 to 60% of the vehicle so on most occasions you may be within the overall weight limit but exceed the back axle limit. When this is the case the fine is just the same as being over the weight. Just thought it was worth you checking out as it would be awful to think you are within legal limits only to find you are outside.
Good Luck

Yes, we got pulled over on the M4 in our little 3.5ton VW35 with 2 16hh horses on board, feed, rugs, tack and all the stuff for a 3 day show

. We were under weight, I cant remember numbers of anything as it was about 4 years ago!
It was dead scary! We had to show the horses passports and everything. We got told off for not having some special break or something on our lorry but its not law and our lorrys only little so we were OK and we were allowed on our way.
Our lorry is sturdy but its basic inside, no living whatsoever just a luton and a cut through cab, its built to carry horses but thats it, no frills.
It always worry me when 3.5 ton horseboxs have living, I just dont believe thats possible unless you only want to fit one 14hh pony inside!
