Anybody ever rescued a horse/pony/donkey from a meat farm in france?

I looked at this website a few months ago... still the same horse on there?! They said then that they had 2 weeks or urgent case....

This is slightly different to horses but I agree with the views on rewarding unscrupulous breeders/dealers and so on. We once had an accidental litter of baby rabbits and asked a local pet shop if they wanted them - they took one look and said no, they're too bonny and healthy - people always pay top money for the scruffy, skinny runts!!!

It was awhile ago. A few people supporting this cause came over here and extolled the virtues of rescuing 'froggy meat horses' and shipping them up here. Most sensible people on HHO pointed out that this was just funding the trade in Europe and if anyone wanted to save a horse then just go down to your local sales. It got quite heated.

Yay! There are normal people in the world!

I dont understand why anyone would be dumb enough to fall for this setup - The french obviously think we are all soft-hearted dumbass's who will fall for any sob story that they spin.

These horses are useless and overpriced and by the time that you have paid to ship them over here, you could have saved four or five true sob stories over here.

By supporting this process, you are encouraging the french to churn out more and more crappy in-bred fuglies for us to take pity on and 'save'.

Nope you can easily pick up a badly bred horse with poor confirmation (sp) in the UK for next to nothing if thats what you are into.....

Oooh **Runs and hides** sorry I didn't realise

. It's me being naive, I didn't realise this kind of thing went on. Just to add I wasn't thinking of doing it myself was just interested on what people knew about it. **can I come back in**

"they pay more than meat money for them as the french farmer have cotton out to it,"
Exactly - I can't help but think they are fuelling the trade!

If you wanted a cute little foal or donky, visit one of the hundreds of markets around the UK where horses frequently go for slaughter and get exported to the continent - rather than do it the other way around and add to our tally of unwanted market fodder.
