Hi all, I recently used a different sharpening service (Wolsley) through my local tackshop due to needing the clipper blades back asap. (I usually post them off but couldn't take the risk on this occassion of them not coming back on time as I run a clipping service).

The service was VERY expensive! Costing £26.50 to get two sets of blades sharpened.

One of the blades was a liveryman A2 which I have had for over a year and had sharpened numerous times with the usual company I send the blades to and have had no problem.

However on this occassion I went to use the newly sharpened blade to clip the other night, it managed to clip about a foot length of hair before the blade went blunt! (The horse was clean and dry).

So I called the tackshop and said I suspected the blade hadn't been sharpened properly and returned it only to be called back today by the shop saying they had contacted Wolsley and apparently they said the Liveryman blades are of a weaker metal compared to most other clipper blades and that they are designed to be used until they go blunt the first time then be thrown away!

That's news to me!

It seems like they just wont accept they are in the wrong?

Has anyone else had any similiar experiences or does anyone have any advice as I have a feeling I am going to have a fight on my hands to get it re-sharpened.

I can't believe a company would sell blades for £30+ designed to be used once and as I mentioned I have had this blade sharpened before with no problems!

Yes me, but mine are the moser avalon First time I've had them sharpened and went blunt after trimming 4 feathers. Useless, but forgot to pursue it. Will be peed off if I have to buy new blades though!!!

Feathers do kill blades pretty quickly unfortunately, and you can see that some blades are different metals to others but as they are a good brand I didn't think for one minute the quality wouldn't be as good as some other makes.

They are probably trying it on to sell me their own blades!

Of course they are not use till blunt and throw away. I wonder where they got them done. I once had mine over ground by a company near Stratford upon avon they took loads off and they were rubbish but I found it impossible to get any compensation.
I now am lucky that I now have a super place and I get lots of clips out of them

No it was only teeny feathers on an idxtb and I've full clipped and hogged him 3 times, plus other horses, before theyve needed sharpening. Not sure who he company was as my tack shop sent them away

I've recently had a huge problem - I contacted Liveryman direct who informed me their blades cannot be sharpened on a normal machine! If they are not sharpened correctly they will be useless and won't cut the hair. Unfortunately this has also led to my entire clippers now refusing to clip even after new blades have been put on.

In my opinion, the old style Liveryman blades, marked LIA2, we're good quality and could be sharpened easily on most sharpening equipment. For some reason and I don,t know why, they brought out a new type blade, which had the word "Liveryman" written on the bottom blade These were of a totally different material and I could not sharpen them on the same machine I had previously used, therefore I used to return them unsharpened at no cost. Perhaps you should send them to Liveryman.

I got my heinigher blades sharpened by 2 different places and they came back cutting worse than when I sent them.
I find I have to buy new and use them for about 10 clips then bin when blunt.

Yip, my Wosely blades were sent to be rre-sharpened, and i clipped a third of the pony, blades went, brought them back and had them done again, foc, and they went again, turns out, the machine needed to be serviced. Had it serviced and blades working fine now. x

Has anyone had blades sharpened by Elite Edges? I sent my blades off to be sharpened for the first time (so not like they've been sharpened lots of times and ran out) and all 6 sets of blades wont cut at all. :( I emailed them yesterday but still waiting for a reply. :( I can't wait to clip as she needs doing before the weekend so I have had to go out and buy a new set so I can guarentee to get her clipped by the weekend.

Just to add, my friend has a set of Liverymany clippers which have clipped I don't know how many horses over 12 years and they still sharpen those blades and are used over and over. Don't think they even make blades for it now, as my liveryman blades won't fit it

I normally use Farmcare uk and they are brilliant, the blades get back to me within a few days and they charge £5 per set.

I just couldn't take the risk of them not being returned in time on this one occassion hence using a different company.

I got another call from the tackshop again today, same old story, saying they can't do anything at the blades aren't meant to be sharpened and as I have had them for over a year I have been very lucky.

If they knew the blades were of inferior quality and weren't likely to work after I paid for the service I want to know why I wasn't told before they did them or why nobody said anything when i collected them.

The first i heard of it was when i had a problem, the tackshop remembered there was a note in the delivery saying one blade was a cheaper quality.

I contacted Liveryman who confirmed the blades are not use til blunt then throw away.

I'm seriously not happy about this and feel I can fight some of this but I really can't be bothered with the hassle, i think I'm going to call the sharpening company directly and sort it out, I bet any money that if I send my blade to my usual sharpening service it will be fine!

Definitely recommend Agrihealth! Really quick and helpful and not over expensive either! I sent 3 sets of A2 blades, and 2 Harmony small blades and the total was just under £30 for the lot including return postage. Also - received back in less than a week!
