Anybody have a horse heart rate monitor they want to sell?

Sorry don't have one for sale!

But a wrist watch with an easy to see second hand and two fingers can be used quite effectively for training assuming your horse will stop and let you hang round his/her shoulder on rides while you do it. Does take a bit of practice, I used to be able to do it at a trot.

I don't know if the technology has improved much but when I did endurances 2001-2003 the ones you attached to the saddle and see while riding (not top of the range but decent $) were fairly dodgey and if you put 2 on 1 horse the reading could vary by up to 10bpm. Also seemed to be effected by how wet the monitors were (ie due to rain) and how sweaty horse was.

Stethoscope remains the best way to measure (I think) heart rate before going to the Vet at rides/compps as is the most reliable!

The thing is his respiratory rate is sky high during hard work (he's a polocrosse pony) and it doesn't come down as quickly as I'd like it to after exercise/playing so I want to see what his heart rate is doing while he's being exercised and after so hanging off the side with a stethascope could prove to be a bit difficult!

Hi Kat. I'm getting into Endurance (1st competition at end of Aug, scary!) and have been using a stethescope on Rusty. Takes a of practise - not to count the seconds on your watch, LOL
