I have bought my mare back into low level routine work ( 2 days a week ridden for 30-60 minutes )
The past two times when i have stretched her front left leg, to ensure her girth doesnt pinch, its almost like she goes to lie down, doesnt fall over to the side, just leans back and goes very low to the floor, shes reluctant to let me stretch it, i cant actually get it up to stretch as she will do this...
Does anybody have any idea what could be wrong?
Or experienced this and knows why?

Shes fine when ridden, and can walk trot etc fine.

The vet is hopefully visiting the yard in next couple of weeks so will question with him but just in mean time would like to know :)

Thankyou!

It is not a good idea to stretch out a cold horse, as in not warmed up not actually cold, it can cause the muscles to go tense or even into spasm as they get pulled, there is no reason to pull the leg forward in this way if the girth pinches it is not suited to the horse so should be replaced.
Stretches of this type can be beneficial if done correctly after exercise or a warm up period, a good physio will show you what is suitable and it would be a good idea to ask your vet if they can recommend one who could come out and give the horse a check over and show you exercises that are useful at the same time.
