I have contacted the horse bit bank and they recommended the Ported Barrel Bomber Bit.
Does anyone have any experience with these?

I’ve got the eggbutt version in my bit box, bought it secondhand to try on my horse who was a bit active in his mouth. It was fine but no magic solution! I’m sure it will make a reappearance for something at some point, but for now his lordship like a fat, single jointed hollow mouth purchased for the eye watering sum of £5 ðŸ˜
My pony is currently in the happy tongue bomber and he’s not really a fan of it, and neither am I. I just didn’t know if he would react any differently to it
I suppose it really depends on what it is about current but he dislikes and also how he is being ridden.
I’m all for some of these newer types of bit because I think anything we can do to help improve horse comfort where there is a genuine bit issue is a good thing.
That said, they are often expensive and they make a good income for bitting consultants. Sometimes the more basic answer (ie simplify things and ride better) is the most effective solution!
Bea, my current ride has been having huge issues, popped in the eggbutt Bomber happy mouth late last year. More headshaking, tongue over bit and no bloody control when she did that. I couldn't put my leg on, she was too sharp and quick to get tongue over bit or run behind the bit.
Since then, wolf teeth out, chiro specialist vet out, good saddler and then top notch pro rider on.
B is now in a French link full cheek at my suggestion and this made a huge difference immediately, coupled with pro rider we have made huge improvements. No, not perfect but as I said elsewhere recently, as she has a fleshy tongue the bomber should have suited, but she also has a short mouth and palette, so it didn't.
Hope you find something to help.
