Don't know about its use for hooves but I was told by a old horse man that if a horse has a something like a big knee its great stuff to reduce the swelling. He gave me a jar but I must confess I have not tried it (yet).

It sounds very interesting, let me know how you get on.
I wonder if its good for flesh wounds?

Kevin Bacon's contains animal fat (which animal I do not know!) & is great for hooves!

Bacon maybe? Sorry, couldn't resist

Seems a tad surreal to me to be honest to apply part of a dead horse onto a living one. I would not use it myself on principle really. Would rather stick to veg based oil products like sunflower seeds, or cod liver oil and that other greasy substance whose name I can never remember lol that farriers recommend.

well I was discussing it with my instructor and my saddler. Said to my saddler id be interested in and where to get it from. He knows of no-one but him and his pro SJ's who have it. He says they render it down on their own in huge vats of the stuff then use it on their own horses.
He was so kind that when he brought my saddles back he bought me a tin full of the stuff. Cant say it smells very good, and it doesnt look a very nice colour. Its a beigey colour - grease consistency but supposedly absolutely amazing for horses feet, something to do with the fat content? Its supposed to be better than all of the hoof products on the market as its all natural oils and fats etc.

I will do! Its suppsed to better than the products on the market as its all natural. I cant see what harm it would do to the skin?
Hes recommended to put on the coronet band and max half way down the hoof wall and on the frog.
Will give you an upate - might take piccies too to see if there is any improvement

but why not? at least its all natural oils and fats - no chemical or anything like that. The animal hasnt been killed to produce this so why would you not use it? The horse isnt eating it

It may be natural oils and fat but it's just the principle of the thing really. I guess this forum has opened my eyes to just how many actual horse lovers there are out there ( also referring to the f word thread there too).
In my eyes it's like using a cat skin taken from a cat pts at a vets to use as blanket to keep a sick cat warm. Not that a vets would allow you to use a corpse in that way. And btw I have no probs with skins of dead foals and other youngsters being used on another so that the mother will accept another one's offspring. That is different in my eyes. Just pointing that out before anyone reading this decides to throw that arguement at me.
What I am saying is that I personally have an issue with an animal by product being used on or in the same said animal.
In the wild a horse would not run up to a dead compatriot and say "heh my feet could do with a feed maybe I'll rub my hooves on this ere rotting bit of skin and fat." So why use the stuff on domesticated horses imo?
People can call me whatever they like. Everyone has different views on the subject and maybe some have higher standards of morals than others. But we all have the right to opinions and I'm just expressing mine that's all.
