Hey, I have been set an assignment on BE at college. I don't have the rulebook and the bits of it on the BE website won't download for me. I was wondering if anyone could tell me which rules/regulations are important to the welfare of the horse? Any info apprieciated. Thanks

like what?
ie if you have a horse fall (the horses shoulder or more hits the floor) then you're not aloud to continue (i think, as that's from memory)..
You're no longer aloud to do 2* on a 6yr old, where in the past i think you were (again, from memory, so could be wrong)

Inappropriate and Dangerous Riding

a) If in the opinion of the BE Steward, the Showjumping Judge, the Cross Country
Controller, the BE Technical Adviser, or the Assistant BE Steward/Technical Adviser,
a competitor is not, for any reason, likely to complete the event without injury to
himself or his horse, the BE Steward may withdraw him from the event.
b) Any rider who affects the safety of any horse, rider or third party will be considered as dangerous and will be penalised accordingly.
c) If in the opinion of the BE steward a competitor is considered to have ridden inappropriately, he/she may be penalised accordingly.

That would be to do with horse welfare?

Lameness - Dressage
If a horse is so lame that, in the opinion of the Judge(s), it ought not to be asked to complete
the test, the Judge(s) may, without appeal, eliminate the competitor from the
competition. If there is doubt as to the soundness of the horse, the competitor will be
allowed to complete the test and any uneveness of pace will be penalised. In each
case the Judge(s) will record and sign a statement on the marking sheet and draw the
attention of the Dressage Steward who will be responsible for informing the BE
Steward, who, in the latter case and in consultation with the Veterinary Surgeon, will
decide if the horse shall be permitted to continue in the competition.
d) Unfitness of Horses
At any time during the competition, a horse which in their opinion is unfit to continue
for any reason, may be eliminated by the BE Steward. Any such decision may be taken
on the advice of the Showjumping judge, the Cross Country Controller, the vet, the BE
Technical Adviser or the Assistant BE Steward/Technical Adviser. Competitors are
warned that competing with a horse in such a condition can amount to a breach of

Abuse of Horses
Any act or omission or series of actions or omissions which, in the opinion of the BE Steward,
constitutes abuse of a horse shall be a breach of these rules. Such acts will include
excessive use of the whip and/or spurs and/or bit , riding at excessive speed and competing
on an exhausted, lame or injured horse. The guidelines in the Medical/Veterinary and
Discipline section should be carefully studied.

Hope this helps.
