Make 3 lines down the bum with a body brush then make sharks teeth shapes doen the hind leg! Sorry not very good at explaining. Well not very good at doing them either. Normally get annoyed that they look so bad and brush them out again!
start at sacroiliac joint and make a line downwards to half way between point of hip and point of buttock
start at top of tail on spine and make a line to meet the first
i.e. form a V
do that both sides and then from sacroiliac joint to tail make a line along the length of the spine to tidy off the top 4 points of the two Vs
then make the sharks teeth
so just above the level where the bottom of the V is put a brush across horizontally
then the width of the brush below the first stroke put one going 30deg upwards
then the next one horizontal, next one upwards - to create the sharks teeth effect
repeat on the other side
you need a good quality body brush with 'sharp edges' to get the definition - not a worn one - and also must be damped.
if you want to see the patterns look at the racing on a saturday afternoon - when they do closups of the horses in the paddock at least one should have the sharks teeth on their hindquarters
then just practice - you need to be able to make the same marks on both sides - which means using both hands !!!
Lol I had a go at this last Sat with a template on my lad but can someone please answer me HOW THE HELL ARE YOU SUPPOSED TO HOLD THE MARKER DOWN AND BRUSH AT THE SAME TIME, sos shouting over but it was very frustrating and I ended up just brushing them out again lol
I dont use sheets, i use a cut down plastic nit comb and do a triangle of little squares or a triangle of 3 large squared with a little square inside each big square.
Never could be bothered with the template thingys, have allways used a fine comb cut to size and made a chess board on the rump and swish marks on the between the rump and thigh with a brush. Plus I think it looks smarter that one that has obviously been done with the template
I use a nit comb cut up. A larg ish one and then a smaller one to form a smaller square inside the bigger one. If you get my drift. But with the templates. Brush the hair down the wrong way. Lay the template from the spine. Then I used to put my elbow on the end near the horses tail and lie my arm flat across the top of the template along the horses spine. And brush the hair that was showing through the squares/diamonds in the correct direction. It looks like the template will move and make "smugey" squares but it doesn't. Then change arms for the opposite side of the quarters. But the comb method is much neater.
