as title really, has anyone on here been the quarry for bloodhounds and if so what's involved, do you have to be marathon running fit? It's something I've always fancied doing, but am guessing the stroke I had will put paid to that despite a good physical recovery

I saw a FB post recently from a bloodhound pack advertising for quarry and it did sound like you'd need to be pretty relentlessly fit. Looks ace though. Personally I only run to catch escaped sheep, but I can totally see the appeal of this. A lot of the clean boot hunts seems to have info online for potential quarries.

Maybe you could ask to only run one line? Or run for a training meet or something? Having had a stroke seems likely to scupper the insurance aspect of it but you should ask! And please do tell us about it if you end up doing it.

I’m with the New Forest Hounds who are now bloodhounds and although I don’t run (dodgy knee) I do help out in quarry support.

We have a wide variety of runners of different speed, fitness and people are paired together who are at similar levels on a hunting day. The terrain can be tough going.

As mentioned above most packs do training runs. The best people to speak to would be your local pack as different hunts will cross different types of country.

Our runners can cover up to 10 miles in day and although not all in one hit you’d need to be able to run a fair distance.

Ooh I'm starting to feel tempted, I got a retired gun dog to help my recovery and currently do between 10 and 15 miles a day, every single day no matter the weather, I'm thinking if I start running again I could do it. I'm in Norfolk so no huge hills or mountains and I know we have blood hounds somewhere as I've seen them at the yard during the pony club rallies, will definitely make some inquiries
